Cafe Del Rey’s Incredible Waterfront Dining in Marina del Rey – August 5th, 2003

Cafe Del Rey, located in the heart of Marina Del Rey, is a spectacular setting for a great meal.

The restaurant is set along side the harbor and looks out over the water and the boats. There is seating outside on the patio and on warm nights the windows are open to the dining room which makes for a very enjoyable meal. The decor inside is very comfortable and soothing. There is a feeling of elegance, yet it feels very inviting and casual in typically great California style.

The food at Cafe Del Rey perfectly compliments the California setting. Delicious sushi, fresh seafood and produce, light and creative salads all inspired in French/Pacific Rim Style. Executive Chef Frank Fronda from New York Restaurant School focuses on Mediterranean Cuisine and a multi-ethnic menu. Frank moved from New York to LA and opened up the Napa Valley Grill (also a feature review story on our website)

For instance the Dungeness Crab Cake accompanied by bean sprouts, ginger syrup and lobster emulsion or the Oven Baked Chicken Spring Rolls with shitake mushrooms, papaya relish and green curry sauce. A must for starters is the Seafood Triangle which is the chefs daily creative creation of three different fresh seafood appetizers.

For an entree someone in the dinner party must order the Curry Blackened Ahi Tuna, which comes with their very own "forbidden rice, tempura vegetable roll and yellow pepper lemon grass sauce. You’ll want to "forbid" anyone to try too much of it because you’ll want every savory bite for yourself. This is definitely one of their signature dishes you shouldn’t miss. Another amazing dish is the Violet Crusted Rack of Lamb with goat cheese stuffed figs, sweet pea puree and syrah reduction. The lamb is cooked perfectly and the accompaniments make a truly unique tasting experience. There is also Miso Grilled White Seabass with little neck clams in a black bean sauce and sweet chili-seared vegetables or how about Boar Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon. You are hard pressed to find anything on the menu that is not innovative, creative, unique, and delicious. A fine way to make the meal perfect is to choose some wine from their award-winning Wine List of many tasty California Wines.

Finish your fab meal off with one of the outstanding desserts Accompanies by one of their grand Tea selections from their Special Tea Menu. It arrives in a fresh, hot Tea Pot with a Honey Jar in the shape of a Bee. Otherwise, select an after Dinner drink or some Port Wine.
