US Soccer team routs Barbados in World Cup Qualifying at the Home Depot Center (6/08)

On June 15, 08 before a crowd of 11,476 at the Home Depot Center in LA, The US National Team destroyed and embarrassed the Barbados National team in the first leg of World Cup Qualifying for 2010.  This 8-0 victory in the home and home games was totally one sided. The US team scored early and often with Clint Dempsey and Brian Ching each scoring 2 goals. Michael Bradley, son of the head coach, Landon Donovan and Eddie Johnson scored the other goals and one goal was an own goal as the visitors knocked it in their own net.  Freddy Adu played well even though he didn’t score. On June 22, The US team won 1-0 in Barbados to earn a FIFA world cup semi final berth with a 9-0 aggregate score.

The U.S. will now prepare for their first match of the Semifinal Round, which will be on the road against Guatemala on Aug. 20. Overall, the U.S. will play a total of six games in the round-robin Semifinal Round, facing all three opponents in the four-team group home and away. The top two teams will advance to the Final Round hexagonal that will be played in 2009.  More info at www.ussoccer.com
