Spas/Resorts

Bliss Spa at the W Hotel in Westwood and nationwide provides incredible treatments/services (4/10)

We were pleasantly surprised entering Bliss Spa for the first time.  It was extremely clean, welcoming and relaxing.  The staff was completely informative from the products provided to the layout of the spa and treatments offered.  The waiting room was fully equipped and quiet with comfortable couches, a variety of magazines, art books from Edward Weston to several others and fine amenities: fresh water with cucumbers and lemon, apples, cheese and crackers and for a sweet tooth: chocolate and blondie mini brownies. The spa area includes steam showers, a sauna and several Bliss products from the famous body butter to others to make one feel refreshed and vibrant.

I, Lisa, was greeted warmly from my first technician Sasha Yoshimura who provided the Oxygen Facial that Bliss is known for; as not all spas offer such a treatment.  You sink into a warm heated bed in a dimly lit quiet room.  She first checked my skin to see any trouble areas and the degree of how it is.  This special treatment consists of intense cleansing with extractions and exfoliation.  Then a common oxygen milk mask, pre-extraction oxygen wrap and the final touch: a vitaminized oxygen spray from a specific oxygen machine.  The main purpose of this facial is to clean out bacteria and pores and to hydrate the skin.  While this took place, a light massage on the shoulders, arms, hands and feet took place, which was great relaxation.  The therapist then adds a light moisturizer, eye cream and lip balm.  She showed me the mirror and my skin was extremely moist and glowing.  The treatment lasts 75 minutes and is the perfect rejuvenation for one physically and emotionally.  I even bought the Instant Energizing Oxygen Mask to do at home weekly to keep up the glow.

I then received a manicure from Shiho Misawa.  The cleanliness from the display of polishes from shimmer to matte nicely arranged by color, the buffers used specifically for the person receiving the manicure and the plastic bags filled with warm lotion to moisturize the skin were the perfect touches for a beautifully done manicure.  Each detail from the filing to the cleaning of the nails was neatly and exclusively done to perfection.

I, Todd, received one of the most incredible deep tissue massages from any spa I have been to before. Elizabeth was my massage therapist and checked in with me to add more pressure when needed. A warm wax paraffin pack was included as an extra to warm the muscles before and during the massage. You have the choice of where you want the paraffin pack in case you have a sore spot. Otherwise, they can wrap your feet, which was wonderful.   I have never experienced this before but highly recommend it.  Adding aromatherapy provides more relaxation and a nice scent to your treatment. The massage was for 75 minutes, which allowed Elizabeth to cover all my needs and full body.  Also available are 105-minute massages if preferred.  The environment was nice with some background light music for total overall comfort.  I actually had a headache when arriving but that went away right after the massage and pressure points to my neck and upper back.

Up next was a 60- minute pedicure by nail technician Tomoyo.  First came soaking my feet in some warm cleansing water.  That was followed by de-roughing, clipping,  filing, trimming, cleaning and buffing of my toenails. A moisturizer was applied that left my feet feeling fabulous. A virgin pina colada and some treats came with the pedicure. Relax, read or even watch TV during your service.  Earphones and a remote control are given to you so you can watch what you want.  The treatment was very detailed and professional.

Overall, we strongly recommend Bliss Spa especially the Oxygen Facial.  There is no wonder for the name as one will be in a major state of pure bliss.  There are several Bliss Spas as the original began in New York City.   One can make a day retreat at the W Hotel in Westwood after your time at the spa.   It contains a pool as well as a fine restaurant.  The newest one has just opened in Hollywood.  If taking a friend, loved one or just spending the day alone, you will feel completely pampered and rested after a day at the Bliss Spa.
