What an entertaining show it was. From fantastic trapeze/acrobatic/trampoline acts to comedy with a unique movie theme as many of the skits were filmed live and projected on big screen in black and white just behind the actually on going acts. The creativity is genius and the performers were incredible and funny. The show has a 10 year commitment at the Kodak Theater so come see the show to tell all of your friends/family about it.
This new production from Cirque du Soleil is a lyrical, fanciful, kinetic foray into the seventh art. Bringing together dance, acrobatics, live video, filmed sequences and animation, the show takes spectators on a fantastic voyage through the history of cinema and its genres, taking them into the heart of the movie-making process. From illustration to animation, black and white to color, silent films to talkies, fixed shots to swooping camera movements, spectators witness the poetic construction/deconstruction of this art as an object and as a way of transcending reality.
Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil is now a Hollywood staple as they have agreed to a 10 year run at the Kodak Theatre. The Los Angeles based show, IRIS, is a tribute to the art of cinema with a Hollywood sizzle. Los Angeles local and former Oingo Boingo frontman, Danny Elfmann, fittingly is one of two leaders of IRIS’s creative team, the other being Paris-based director Philippe Decouflé.
The small Kodak stage, in comparison to a Vegas stage, is smaller so the show is more intimate. Nonetheless, IRIS is spectacular, creative and the best show in Los Angeles. You can expect the world’s best acrobatic teams, contortionists and trampoline tumblers. Dreamy video streams of the performers on the backdrop showcases the show’s theme – IRIS of the camera and an actor’s ambition to be in the spotlight.

2011 performances are held from Tuesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm & 8pm and Sundays at 1pm (with the exception of July 24 & 31 at 6:30pm) and 6:30pm. There are no performances on Monday.
IRIS will not perform on the following dates in 2011:

Dining at the Grill
Looking for a fine dining place before or after the show. The Grill is located on the 4th floor of the Hollywood/Highland complex and the perfect place to eat. The food is top notch and they have a special $55 prix fix menu including an appetizer, main course and dessert that is organized to get you to the show in time.
The first thing that captures your attention at The Grill atop the Kodak in Hollywood is the warm, pleasant service from the host to the waiter to the busboy. With their chef-like uniforms, the servers have a strong understanding of cuisine and will go the extra mile to satisfy. The Grill is truly a Steak & Chop House so keep that in mind if your indecisive about whether to go with Seafood or not. The Double Cut Australian Lamb Chop is a must order and a great dish to share – ask for the mint sauce on the side as it’s typically served wet. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake makes a great appetizer and the salads and dressing are fantastic. The desserts are a chocolate lover’s delight with the Double Chocolate Layer Cake to the Fudge Brownie Pie. The Fruit Cobbler Of The Day may be a mix of apple and peaches, apple and blueberries or any other combination that’s in season. The Cobbler is large enough to feed a four top and a true joy to work on before heading over to a show at the Kodak Theatre.
Restaurant Launches Prix Fixe Dinner, which can be Enjoyed Before and After the Show
WHAT: The Grill on Hollywood, located at Hollywood & Highland, adjacent to the Kodak Theater and new home of Cirque du Soleil’s IRIS, will roll out the proverbial red carpet at the show’s premiere, Sunday, September 25. Five thousand guests will attend a Hollywood-style block party on Hollywood Blvd. where The Grill on Hollywood will be serving up guest favorites and launches its three-course prix fixe theater menu.
To avoid the post-show rush, guests can “split” their dinner by coming back to the restaurant after the show to enjoy their dessert and after dinner coffee or nightcap.
