LA GALAXY TO OPEN WESTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP AT HOME ON SUNDAY NIGHT

After defeating San Jose on Wednesday, Galaxy to host the winner of the Real Salt Lake-Seattle Sounders FC series in first leg at The Home Depot Center on Sunday at 6 p.m.

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, November 8, 2012) – Following their 3-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes in the second leg of their Western Conference Semifinal Series on Wednesday night, the LA Galaxy have advanced to the Western Conference Championship for a fourth straight season. The first game of that two leg, aggregate goal series will be played at The Home Depot Center on Sunday, November 11 with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. LA’s opponent in the Western Conference Semifinal will either be Real Salt Lake or Seattle Sounders FC, who finish their Conference Semifinal Series tonight at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah at 7 p.m. (PT) on NBC Sports Network.

Tickets for Sunday’s game, which is presented by Pechanga Resort & Casino, are on sale now, starting at $33, through the club’s official website www.lagalaxy.com. Before the game, the LA Galaxy Foundation will be selling $50 raffle tickets for the chance to win a soccer ball signed by members of the current Galaxy team and the opportunity to meet Robbie Keane with all proceeds benefitting those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The Galaxy finished the MLS regular season with a 16-12-6 record for 54 points before coming from behind to beat Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 in the single-game Knockout Round. Facing the Supporters’ Shield winning San Jose Earthquakes in a Western Conference Semifinal Series, the Galaxy lost the first leg 1-0 at home before winning 3-1 on Wednesday to claim a 3-2 series win on aggregate, becoming just the third team in MLS history to lose the first leg of a Conference Semifinal series at home and then rally to win the series by winning the second leg on the road.

Unlike past seasons, this year’s Conference Championship will be decided by aggregate goals following a two-leg, home-and-home series identical to the Conference Semifinals.

After hosting the first leg of the Western Conference Championship at The Home Depot Center at 6 p.m. on Sunday, the Galaxy will play the second leg of the series away to either Real Salt Lake or Seattle Sounders FC, on Sunday, November 18 with kick off scheduled for 6 p.m. (PT). That game will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. The game will also be available on the radio in English on KTLK 1150 AM and in Spanish on KWKU 1220 AM as well as on satellite radio on SiriusXM and online at www.lagalaxy.com.

Since 1996, the Galaxy have qualified for this round of the MLS Cup Playoffs 12 times and advanced to MLS Cup a record seven times, including in two of the last three years. If the Galaxy return to MLS Cup, which will be played on Saturday, December 1, this season, they would play away to the winner of the D.C. United-New York Red Bulls series or at home against the Houston Dynamo in a rematch of MLS Cup 2011, which the Galaxy won, 1-0, at The Home Depot Center.

LA GALAXY TO HOST VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC IN WESTERN CONFERENCE KNOCKOUT ROUND ON NOVEMBER 1

CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, October 23, 2012) – The LA Galaxy will host Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the inaugural Western Conference Knockout Match on Thursday, November 1 at The Home Depot Center. That game, which is presented by The Flame Broiler, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and will be shown live nationally on the NBC Sports Network.

The Knockout Match will be played over 90 minutes, which would be followed by 30 minutes (two 15-minute halves) of extra time if the game is tied. If the game is still tied after extra time, it would be decided on penalties. The winner of the Knockout Match will move on to face the San Jose Earthquakes in the Western Conference Semifinals.

If the Galaxy, who were 2-0-1 against Vancouver this season, defeat the Whitecaps in the Knockout Round, they will host the first leg of their Semifinal Series against the Earthquakes on Sunday, November 4 at The Home Depot Center with the return leg being played in San Jose a few days later.

Prior to beginning the MLS Cup Playoffs, the Galaxy will play a pair of games this week, first in El Salvador against Isidro Metapan in the CONCACAF Champions League and then at home against Seattle Sounders FC in the MLS regular season finale. The game against Metapan kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 25 and can be seen live on FOX Soccer and Univision Deportes Dos. The season finale against Seattle, which is presented by Pechanga Resort & Casino, kicks off at 6 p.m. and a limited number of tickets still remain.
