LA Galaxy dominate DC United whose team leads the Eastern Conference in points with Landon Donovan leading the way- August 2014

L.A Galaxy vs. DC United 8 -27-14

On a beautiful summer night at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, Ca., the L. A Galaxy (without their leading scorer Robbie Keane who was taking the night off to rest we heard) took on Eastern Conference leader DC United…and dismantled them. The final score was 4-1 for the Galaxy. The Galaxy scored in the first 65 seconds of the game with Alan Gordon (pictured above) starting off the scoring and never let up. D.C United looked confused on defense and could do nothing on offense as the Galaxy totally dominated possession of the ball with short, crisp passes. The game sent a powerful message that the Galaxy are a force to be reckoned with for the remainder of this season. Omar Gonzalez added a goal on a one timer off a corner kick by Landon Donovan. In the end, Gordon, Gonzalez, Husidic and Donovan scored as the Galaxy romped to a big home win.

Eddie Johnson of DC United was pretty much taken out of the game by Leonardo and Omar Gonzalez (both pictured above) who played great defense against him.  Johnson was left off of the USA World Cup team as he may have been able to help at forward but it didn’t work out that way.

Donovan (pictured above) dominated and lead the way with 1 goal and 2 assists with precision passes and controlling the ball on offense. With great patience, vision and timing he threaded passes through small holes and created an abundance of opportunities for his teammates. Watching this masterful performance by Donovan would make anyone scratch their head trying to figure out how he could have been left of the World Cup team roster.  Donovan was recently selected to the National team for one last game later this year before he retires after this season.  The way he played tonight showed that he still has the talent to keep going if he wanted to.  Brazilian midfielder Juninho (pictured below) also played very well in the game. Galaxy coach Bruce Arena was very satisfied with the team’s game plan and execution with this game as the playoffs are not too far away.
