Wildcraft restaurant in Culver City has creative, unique fine food- October 2014

Wildcraft is an all around great restaurant with a variety of dishes. Tasty food, good service and a trendy atmosphere make this place a must for your next dinner in downtown Culver City. Start with one of their antipastis of meats, breads or cheeses. Don’t miss the tender burrata salad with hazelnuts and persimmon or the kale salad with tomatoes, pine nuts and ricotta.

The seafood selection is wonderful- a variety of oysters from eastern, kumiai and fanny bay. Other choices include basted scallops with butter nut squash, an octopus dish with butter beans and lastly the brodetto of mussels, clams and shrimp.

Daily house-made pastas from spaghetti to cavatelli, pappardelle and risotto with different proteins from pork, short rib, lamb sausage and veggies. The wood-fired sourdough pizzas are delicious from their very own pizza oven serving unique styles with sausage, bacon, truffle and pork belly. We went for the more original tomato and mozzerella as well as the burrata with squash blossoms. The staff was very nice and we had great service. They even made a tasty mac and cheese for the kids so they were very happy.

For meats, the Italian fried chicken is a must with thyme, rosemary and salsa with other choices of lambchetta, hanger steak and pork ossobucco. Sides of brussels sprouts, broccoli and roasted fennel go well with whatever you order. Most dishes have creative sauces and preparations you will not find elsewhere.

Finish your experience with one of their fantastic desserts from the baked to order pear tart, greek yogurt panna cotta or piemontese chocolate hazelnut cake with chocolate ganache and fig marmalada.

Wildcraft features Chef Tin Vuong’s take on modern Italian cuisine with a focus on Northern Italian, and in particular “la cucina Piemontese.” The design is traditional Italian tavern aesthetic — intimate, sophisticated and fun — with the main dining area closely connected with the kitchen and wood-burning oven. The decor expresses a mid-century modern feel, with black lacquer, smoke glass and brass fittings, evoking — in a sense — a Fellini movie scene. On the outdoor dining patio, wooden tables and benches and large light pendants made of rope, create an inviting ambiance for enjoying food and drinks outside, both day and night.

Wines are hand-selected featuring interesting varietals from California with an Italian theme running through. With a full liquor license, the handcrafted cocktail program is an integral part of the dining and late night experience at Wildcraft, and features innovative libations and refreshing interpretations of classic Italian cocktails, like the Sgroppino with vodka, lemon gelato, prosecco and mint.

The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed with indoor and outdoor seating so drop by for a meal and you will not be disappointed.
