LA Galaxy win in Gerrard’s great debut first MLS home game as Keane has a hat trick- July 2015

In an exciting first home MLS game for Steven Gerrard , he did not disappoint.  He scored his first goal on a beautiful shot to tie the game at 2-2 as San Jose got off to an early 2-0 lead.  Robbie Keane scored on two penalty kicks and added a third off a Gerrard pass for a hat trick.  Sebastian Lletget scored in yet another game to round the scoring making the final score 5-2.  Newcomer Quincy Amarikwa scored both goals for the earthquakes as they looked good early.

LA was missing some key players such as Zardes, Alan Gordon, Omar Gonzalez and goalie Penedo but they have a deep team as they showed. The addition of Gerrard coming from his only pro team before at Liverpool really helped and he looked like he had been playing with the team for a while as there was great chemistry.  The Galaxy are looking to make a run for their third cup in a row and when they get everyone back plus adding Mexican star Giovani Dos Santos in August, who they just signed, they will be tough to beat.

San Jose was missing their star player in national team forward Wondolowski but after the early good start, la dominated the rest of the game. It could have been worse as LA hit multiple goal posts. Up next for the Galaxy is a huge exhibition match at the Rose Bowl on July 21st vs. Barcelona.  However, Messi and Neymar didn’t make the trip.  did not make the USA trip but it will still be a good game. www.lagalaxy.com     Photos by David Deram
