Red O in Santa Monica is off the charts- August 2015

The newly opened Red O on Ocean Ave. in Santa Monica is going to make it big. Finally a high end place with a beautiful casual setting and absolutely delicious food. We had a nice booth near the window and our server Jeffrey was very hospitable as was the GM Jeff.

We started with the huevona guacamole which had a little kick to it, the ahi tuna tostaditas, tortilla soup and corn/goat cheese tamales. Both were fantastic and we were off to a great start while we each enjoyed one of their signature cocktails (their popular marguerita served in a martini glass and buluga vodka martini which is very hard to find and one of the smoothest I have ever had.

They had a nice selection of prime steaks and seafood entrees and we stayed with the seafood choices. Jeffrey suggested the fresh Sea Bass, which was outstanding on yellow corn puree with a lobster sauce finish. We also had the traditional entree Mexican shrimp enchiladas served with red rice and black bean. Not to miss was the fresh Maine Lobster Tail. For accompaniments, we had the street corn with onions and spices along with the fried plantains and we were in heaven. Barely room for dessert but we sampled the hot fudge sundae and churros.

Overall, we were very impressed and we could see why. We came early but by time we were leaving, the restaurant was packed. This was the best new restaurant we have dined at in a long time and especially in Santa Monica. Big thumbs up and a definite must visit.
