LOS ANGELES – The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) presents FRESH, a summer party and silent auction of works by emerging and established artists. This one-night-only event will take place on Saturday, June 4, at , at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (

152 N. Central Avenue, Los Angeles

) and will feature over 300 artworks for sale, plus drinks, food, and music. Proceeds support MOCA’s exhibition programs as well as the Drawings Committee Acquisition Fund, which is used to purchase works on paper for the permanent collection.

Over 300 works by emerging and established local, national, and international artists, with prices ranging from $700 to $10,000, will be offered for sale. This auction presents an opportunity for the public to acquire the newest and highest quality of work, much of which is often not available through galleries, at or below market prices.   

MOCA Trustee Jennifer Simchowitz chairs the auction, and committee members include Carol Appel, Maria Bell, Blake Byrne, J. Ben Bourgeois, Sheridan Brown, Rosette V. Delug, Betty Duker, Cliff Einstein, Mandy Einstein, Tony Ganz, Michael O. Gold, Doug Inglish, Deborah Irmas, Larry Marx, Laura Maslon, Shirley Morales, Tina Petra, Brenda Potter, Rodman Primack, Dennis A. Roach, Paula Rudnick, Larry Sanitsky, Samuel Schwartz, Dominique Shelton, Beth Swofford, Dean Valentine, and Candace A. Younger.

“This will be a truly unique art auction event. FRESH targets art enthusiasts and young collectors, as well as seasoned collectors, by offering a range of works by some of the rising stars of the contemporary art world,” said MOCA Trustee and Auction Chair Jennifer Simchowitz. “The impressive body of work offered at this auction is the result of an active auction committee who, along with museum curators, carefully selected the newest and highest quality work.”

Comprised of paintings, sculptures, and drawings, the auction works have been generously donated by artists, collectors, and galleries. Artists featured are Ryoko Aoki, Chiho Aoshima, Kevin Appel, Edgar Arceneaux, Robert Beck, Cindy Bernard, Edgar Bryan, Skyler Brickley, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Tony de los Reyes, Lecia Dole-Recio, Martin Eder, Tim Eitel, Olafur Eliasson, Chris Finley, Eve Fowler, Francesca Gabbiani, Matthew Greene, Katie Grinnan, Skylar Haskard, Lia Halloran, Alex Hartley, Roger Herman, William Kentridge, Alice Koenitz, Thom Mayne, Kim McCarty, Aaron Morse, Sandeep Mukherjee, Kelly Nipper, Michelle O’Marah, Andy Ouchi, Monique Prieto, Stephanie Pryor, Jonathan Pylypchuk, Pipilotti Rist, Ed Ruscha, Dean Sameshima, David Schnell, Alex Slade, Frances Stark, Ricky Swallow, Spencer Sweeney, Aya Takano, Hellen Van Meene, Matthias Weischer, Pae White, Christopher Williams, and Brian Wills, among many others.

The general public is invited to view the auction artworks and place bids from May 28 through June 3, 2005, at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA from to . An online catalogue of all auction items will be available at moca.org/auction.

In addition to the silent auction, FRESH presents a lively summer party where guests can enjoy an open bar featuring beer by Brahma and tequila by Corzo. Music provided by local DJ’s will be followed by live performances.

Our followup coverage for the "Fresh" event can tell you that this night was highly attended by some prominant people for some great Art supporters.  Great Food/Drinks and a fabulous atmosphere made this event spectacular.  The Art was very well organized when it came to the auctions of all 4 north and south sections.  There were some very unique pieces in many different price ranges.
