What:    The Los Angeles Art Show hosts the Preview Gala Opening to support the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Inner City Arts & the Environmental Media Association.
(Los Angeles, CA-September, 2008)  The Los Angeles Art Show opening night gala benefit is a must-attend event in the Los Angeles social circuit.  Thousands of museum patrons, art collectors and supporters of arts education attend each year.  The evening features live music and exquisite spread of food and spirits. The Preview Opening Gala offers exclusive access to the broad offerings of the show, along with the added benefit of personal insight and expertise, from the gallerists, museum curators and art collectors. The evening attracts generous arts supporters who often purchase items from Los Angeles Art Show exhibitors to add to their personal collections or donate to public collections.
The 2009 benefit raises funds and awareness for three exceptional non-profits, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Art Museum Council, and its Prints & Drawings Council, Inner City Arts and the Environmental Media Association.

The Fine Art Dealers Association (FADA) and KR Martindale Show Management are pleased to announce the move of the Los Angeles Art Show (LA Art Show) to the Los Angeles Convention Center beginning with the January 21-25, 2009 show.  Now in its 14th year, the move will nearly double the size of the LA Art Show and increase the number of international galleries to over 150 exhibitors. With 2008 exhibition figures exceeding 30,000 visitors and achieving record-setting multi-million dollar art sales, the 2009 fair promises to be the most innovative and eclectic show to date.

The LA Art Show will showcase all forms and medium of artistic expression. The repertoire includes:  paintings, drawings, editions, and sculptures as well as installations, photography and performances. The breath of artistic content has been carefully cultivated to highlight the evolution and revolution of art.  Hot emerging artist’s works will be on display alongside museum-quality masterpieces priced in the millions. With more than 15,000 significant paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings and prints on display and available for purchase, the LA Art Show brings together the North American art community at this apex event.

The Los Angeles Art Show will feature a compelling series of Art Discussions highlighting prominent artists, museum & arts professionals in topical discussions as well as film screenings and a series of Artist Films ‘Films on Art’: showcasing an outstanding program of films by and about artists.   

The LA Art Show is committed to developing emerging artists as well as supporting a new generation of young collectors and art enthusiasts and will feature programming to highlight and celebrate up and coming artists as well as a evening mixer exclusively for young collectors and art enthusiasts.  

The LA Art Show will showcase Supersonic 2009, a collection of art displays and installations.  Organized by students, Supersonic 2009 features artwork by M.F.A. candidates from eight of Southern California’s graduate fine art programs. Art works of all media will be presented by students from the following institutions: Art Center College of Design, Claremont Graduate University, Otis College of Art and Design, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and University of Southern California.

An evening mixer for young collectors will take place on Friday January 23, 2009 from 8pm-10pm.  Sponsored by Angeleno Magazine the Art of Fashion event merges high fashion with the world of art.  This evening honors organizations that foster young patrons of the arts.   Participating organizations include GenArt, MOCA Contemporaries, LACMA Muse and Gallery 825.

The IFPDA’s 24th Annual Los Angeles Fine Print Fair will accompany the Los Angeles Art Show at this new location. Founded in 1987, the IFPDA has grown to include 160 elected members in thirteen countries. The IFPDA is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the highest ethical standards and quality among fine print dealers, and to promoting greater appreciation of fine prints among the public.

First Annual Films on Art Series

The Los Angeles Art Show, in collaboration with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Film Archive and the USC School of Cinema Arts, will proudly present its First Annual “Films on Art” series of Academy Award® winning documentaries.

The 2-day program is divided into two themes, Art Masters and the Southern California Connection.  
The Art Masters grouping will feature three films about celebrated artists Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, Marc Chagall and Christo Vladimirov Javacheff.  

The Southern California Connection will feature films about acclaimed local artists, artists exhibiting in So Cal and films about artists that have been inspired or influenced by the So Cal art scene. The Southern California Connection is comprised of five films; The Face of Lincoln, Jim Dine: Self Portrait on the Walls, Red Grooms: Sunflower in a Hothouse, Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann and Four Stones for Kanemitsu.

The Film on Art Series will take place Saturday and Sunday, January 17 & 18, 7:30pm (Doors open at 7:00pm) at the USC Eileen Norris Cinema Theater, USC Campus, 850 West 34th Street, Los Angeles CA 90007.

Supersonic 2009 At The Los Angeles Art Show Special Exhibition

This exhibition will feature the artwork from seven of Southern California’s MFA programs, exclusively at the LA Art Show. Art works of all media will be presented by students from the following institutions: Art Center College of Design, Claremont Graduate University, Otis College of Art and Design, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and University of Southern California.
Art of Fashion @ the LA Art Show
Sponsored by Angeleno Magazine and Don Julio, the Art of Fashion event intends to showcase how the world of art merges together with the world of fashion and in tandem, will also celebrate the various organizations that have and continue to foster young patrons on the LA arts and culture scene.
