LA Galaxy rout the NY Red Bulls as playoffs approach setting their sites on the #1 seed- September 2014

The L.A Galaxy continued their hot streak against the N.Y Red Bulls with a 4-0 victory in front of a large and animated crowd at the Stub Hub Center in Carson. The Galaxy out played the Red Bulls in every facet of the game.

The Galaxy dominated on defense and completely shut down the leagues leading scorer, Bradley Wright-Phillips, who leads the league with 24 goals. Omar Gonzalez & AJ DeLaGarza lead the way on defense with great positioning and hustle and clearing the majority of crosses across the middle. The Red Bulls had very few scoring opportunities. Thierry Henry was the main play-maker but did not attack at all like he used to when he was younger.

Landon Donovan, once again, was a huge catalyst on offense by controlling the ball and giving perfectly timed and accurate passes to his teammates. He assisted Robbie Keane with his 17 goal, who had also scored in the 8th minute with a delicately placed chip shot. Donovan also was part of a great sequence of passes that lead to the third goal of the game by Gyasi Zardes. Donovan also added a goal with a perfectly placed shot in the 50th minute that was created by his great hustle and instincts about where to be on the field. He also had 3 assists as he leads the league with 17 this year and tying him for the all-time MLS career record of 135 total.

Midfielder Marcelo Sarvas and defender Robbie Rogers also had good games as the team played one of their best all around games of the year. Goalie Jaime Penedo played flawlessly and made some huge saves in the first half.

The home stretch is happening with the Galaxy already having secured a playoff spot but battling Seattle for the top seed. They will play against each other twice before the season ends in a home and away battle.
