AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY PRESENTED LA’S TOP CHEFS, PREMIER CALIFORNIA LIBATIONS AT CALIFORNIA SPIRIT 33 GOURMET GARDEN PARTY.

33 GOURMET GARDEN PARTY, WITH HOST CHEF JAVIER PLASCENCIA
LOS ANGELES – July 15, 2018 – The American Cancer Society’s California Spirit 33 gourmet garden
party honored Chef Ming Tsai with the 2018 Impact Award for his inspiring work in the fight against
cancer through his leadership in the national non-profit Family Reach on Sunday, July 15 at Sony
Pictures Studios in Culver City.

The event was hosted by Chef Javier Plascencia, celebrated chef,
author, TV personality noted for his signature interpretation of the cuisine of Baja California. Chef
Jason Fullilove, owner of Barbara Jean LA presided as Culinary Chair for the event.
Honorary chairs Sherry Lansing (Paramount Pictures, STOP CANCER, Stand Up 2 Cancer) and Phil
Rosenthal (15-time Emmy Award-winning “Everyone Loves Raymond,” “Spanglish,” “I’ll have What Phil’s Having” and second season of “Somebody Feel Phil” on Netflix) welcomed the crowd and Andrew
Firestone (Principal at StonePark Capital) presided over the live auction. The event was attended by
Sophia Bush (One Tree Hill, Chicago P.D.), Sharon Lawrence (NYPD Blue), Samantha Harris
(Entertainment Tonight, Dancing with the Stars, Camila Banus (Days of Our Lives), among others.
The event featured a performance by Band From TV, a powerhouse of well-known and
acclaimed actors including Greg Grunberg, Adrian Pasdar, Jack Coleman, and Scott Grimes.

Guests enjoyed offerings from LA’s top restaurants including 71 Above, Barbara Jean LA, The Bel-Air, BOA, Fig & Olive, Frida Mexican Cuisine, Guerilla Tacos, Kato, Life Energy Food, Maple Block Meat Co,
McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams, Panini Kabob Grill, Prawn Coastal, Takami Sushi & Robata, Sweet Lady Jane, The Wallace, Wolfgang Puck Catering, and Wood & Vine. Libations were poured by Ammunition Wine, Codigo 1530 Tequila, Danone Waters of America, Drake’s Organic Vodka & Rum, Golden Road Brewing, Hilltop Coffee, Lillet, Kikori Whiskey, Moraga Bel Air, Malibu Vineyards, and The Ojai Vineyard. Corporate and individual sponsors include, at the Master Chef level ($25,000)—Centric Capital Advisors, Ellie Kanner and David Zuckerman. California Spirit raised some good money for the Society’s groundbreaking research, free patient and
caregiver services, and early detection and prevention education programs.

American Cancer Society honors Chef Ming Tsai, with Chef Javier Plascencia as Host Chef and Chef Jason Fullilove as Culinary Chair

LOS ANGELES – May 23, 2018– The American Cancer Society will gather top LA restaurateurs and California vintners for the American Cancer Society’s California Spirit 33 at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 15 at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City to honor Chef Ming Tsai for his inspiring work in the fight against cancer through his leadership of the national non-profit Family Reach.  This signature event will be hosted by celebrated Mexican Chef Javier Plascencia and stands out amongst peer events exemplified by its elegant garden party setting and carefully curated high-end restaurant and spirits partners.

Co-Founder Sherry Lansing (former Chair and CEO of Paramount Pictures, co-founder of Stand Up 2 Cancer) returns as Honorary Co-Chair with Phil Rosenthal (15-time Emmy Award-winning writer and producer of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and “Somebody Feed Phil”).

“It is my privilege to serve once again as Honorary Co-Chair of California Spirit, alongside my friend Phil Rosenthal,” said Lansing. “Since co-founding this event 33 years ago, I have looked forward every year to celebrating the city’s finest chefs on this special day and, most important, having the opportunity to share and support the lifesaving mission of the American Cancer Society.”

Chef Ming Tsai, award-winning chef, restaurateur, television personality and author, will be honored with the 2018 Impact Award for his inspiring work as an ally in the fight against cancer through his leadership of Family Reach, a national nonprofit dedicated to alleviating the financial burden of cancer.

The event will be hosted by celebrated chef, author, TV personality and public speaker, Chef Javier Plascencia.  He is renowned for his signature interpretation of the cuisine of Baja California, a state that he promotes with passion by using ingredients from the fields, farms and the sea of the region.  His cuisine is showcased in his award-winning restaurants in Baja including Misión 19, Finca Altozano, and most recently Jazamango.

“Cancer has hit my family close to home and we beat the odds,” said Plascencia.  “It is my honor to participate in the California Spirit Gourmet Garden Party to benefit the American Cancer Society and to be a voice of awareness to the Latino community.”

Chef Jason Fullilove, celebrated Chef & Owner of Barbara Jean LA is presiding as Culinary Chair for the event.  He has served as Executive Chef for Mark Peel at Campanile/Tar Pit as well as special events for the Michelin-starred Patina Restaurant Group.  In this distinguished role, Fullilove is curating the elite group of restaurants and beverage purveyors participating this year.

“I’ve had several close relatives diagnosed with cancer in the past two years,” said Fullilove.  “That made it real for me.  I want to do my part to help other families have hope that they can beat this disease.”

Andrew Firestone will return once again to preside over the live auction.
