ATLANTIS SUBMARINES HAWAII ADVENTURES

ARTICLE WRITTEN BY JEFF ZIMERMAN
Ever wonder what it is liked going to the bottom of the ocean in a submarine and descending to 100 feet underwater.  We explored Waikiki Oahu dive site;  home to many Hawaiian coral, fishes, and turtles aboard the Atlantis XIV,  the world’s largest battery powered hi-tech submarine.  We boarded a shuttle boat that took us to the submarine itself. The total duration is approximately one hour and 30 minutes, with the submarine portion 45 – 50 minutes long.
The Atlantis adventure was an eye-opening experience that took us beyond the classroom as we learned about coral and reef life while visiting sunken shipwrecks, airplane and other artificial reefs. The seats on the air-conditioned Atlantis were comfortable, and the windows had large view ports, almost two feet wide.
On our trip, participants encountered thousands of creatures, from wana (sea urchins)  to spotted eagle rays and moray eels. People also saw butterflyfish, tang, and Moorish idols that drifted around the artificial reefs.  In other trips participants saw a white reef shark resting in the shade of a sunken plane wing, a flash of barracuda, and a green sea turtle swimming by in the distance.
We had a fun morning and recommend this enjoyable and memorable submarine adventure. For further details on their three submarine tours in  O’ahu, Maui & Kona check out their website atlantisadventures.com/
