With all eight U.S. Olympians and both the men’s and women’s defending champions advancing to the final day, fans anticipated a thrilling conclusion to the AVP Manhattan Beach Open. What they witnessed under a sunny sky was an exhilarating final day of action.
The AVP Manhattan Beach Open 2024 champions were Trevor Crabb and Theo Brunner earning the top mens’ prize, and Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss winning the womens’ championship.
Trevor Crabb and Theo Brunner emerged with the mens’ title, Crabb added his fourth Manhattan Beach Open plaque to the Manhattan Beach Pier, while Brunner secured his first. The men’s championship match saw Crabb and Brunner deliver a overwhelming performance, defeating the team of Andy Benesh and Miles Partain, the 2024 Olympians, with scores of 21-18, 21-18. Earlier in the day, Crabb and Brunner faced a tough semifinal, overcoming defending champions Taylor Crabb and Taylor Sander in a thrilling three-set encounter, 21-18, 19-21, 15-11, a match that has been dubbed the “Crabb Boil.”
Just one week after their return from the Paris Olympics, Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss captured their first-ever Manhattan Beach Open title with an 18-21, 21-17, 15-9 victory over the defending champions, Betsi Flint and Julia Scoles.
