Telefèric Barcelona in Brentwood serves up Authentic Spanish Cuisine & Paella- Sept. 2025
The Padrosa family, from the Basque region of Spain, first opened their restaurant in Sant Cugat, pioneering pintxos and tapas in Catalonia. Years later, siblings Xavi and Maria expanded to Barcelona, bringing their family’s culinary tradition to life. In 2023, they fulfilled their dream of opening Telefèric Barcelona’s sixth location, right here in Brentwood. We ate in their outside patio and really enjoyed the booths with pillows.
Staff writer Marie grew up in the Basque region and their menu immediately struck a personal chord. From the paellas to the tapas, everything feels authentically Spanish—flavors that instantly bring her back home.
We started with cocktails, and the experience set the tone for the evening. Bryan’s Legacy was impressive: a mix of Scotch, Torres Brandy 10 years, Drambuie, PX Sherry, and bitters, poured over smoked ice brought to the table. The hickory aroma gave it a unique depth that was both charming and memorable. Off-menu, the espresso martini was perfectly balanced and delicious, while photographer Jim enjoyed “The Tourist” cocktail, which was equally well-crafted. Todd had their coffee-vodka cocktail, which was delicious. They have a nice selection of Sangrias as well.
Our server, Gabriel, was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, guiding us with great recommendations. Yuri was the other great staff who helped & greeted us. We began with the Tuna Tacos, featuring marinated ahi, creamy avocado, and crisp wonton shells—a refreshing and flavorful bite. The Gambas al Ajillo, with Gulf shrimp sautéed in olive oil, lemon zest, and crispy garlic, were sizzling and packed with flavor. The Heirloom Tomato Salad was another standout: tomato carpaccio paired with tuna escabeche, basil vinaigrette, and our added seared tuna, bringing brightness and balance to the table. Each dish was beautifully executed and absolutely delicious.
For the main course, we shared two paellas, each with its own unique personality. The Paella Negra was striking for its dramatic black color, derived from squid ink. Its flavor was rich, savory, and deeply umami, with marine notes that highlighted the shrimp, scallops, clams, and octopus. Known as arròs negre in Spain, this traditional dish from the Valencian and Catalan regions truly captured the essence of the sea in every bite.
Equally memorable was the Lobster Paella, made with Canadian lobster, shrimp, and octopus. It was crafted with authentic Bomba rice, prized for its ability to absorb flavor while remaining perfectly firm. The delicate threads of saffron gave the rice its golden hue and fragrance, while the prized socarrat—the caramelized crust at the bottom of the pan—added irresistible texture and depth. Finished with fresh parsley and lemon, it was a dish as bright as it was indulgent.
To finish, we enjoyed the Trío Selection: churros, torrija (a Spanish-style brioche dessert), and a light orange mousse. It was the perfect sweet ending to a spectacular meal.
Telefèric Barcelona is not just about food—it’s about atmosphere and hospitality. The Brentwood location is beautifully designed, with both indoor and outdoor seating, plus a charming little market inside for Spanish specialties. Easy to access, it’s the perfect spot for a cozy lunch or a lively dinner with family and friends.
This restaurant truly captures the heart of Spain, from its menu to its service, and is a must-visit in Los Angeles.
