From Lahaina’s historic streets to Kaanapali’s oceanfront resorts, the island offers world-class dining experiences that celebrate fresh local ingredients, Hawaiian culinary traditions, and inventive, globally inspired cuisine.

In our culinary journey, we explored some of Maui’s most renowned restaurants, each offering not only extraordinary food but also exceptional service, unique ambiance, and unforgettable experiences.

Located in the heart of Whalers Village, Monkeypod Kitchen is a celebration of island flavors, craft cocktails, and fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Their professionalism and genuine aloha elevated the meal far beyond what is typical in resort-area dining.

Other craft cocktails incorporate local fruits, tropical spices, and house-made syrups, perfect for sipping while enjoying live music in the evenings.

Waikiki and Honolulu Dining Guide

Roy’s Waikiki on Lewers Street was nothing short of spectacular — a feast for the senses wrapped in an atmosphere of sophistication and aloha. From the moment we were seated, the beautifully curated décor caught our eye: lush tropical plants, soft warm lighting, and an elegant open dining space that perfectly blends island charm with upscale polish.

We began with the sushi kampachi — delicately crafted, fresh, and artfully presented — followed by a mixed green salad that offered a crisp, refreshing contrast. A side of tempura zucchini arrived next: light, golden, and perfectly seasoned — a delightful complement to the meal.

Then came the undeniable stars of the evening. First, Roy’s signature miso butterfish — beautifully caramelized, silky, and infused with rich, savory miso-butter flavor that lingered with every bite. It’s easy to see why this has become their hallmark dish. Next, the fresh catch of the day, Monchong, prepared simply yet flawlessly to highlight the delicate sweetness of the fish and the freshness of Hawai‘i’s waters.

Service was every bit as remarkable as the food. Our server, Yoshi, was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations and ensuring every detail was perfect. Jonas, the manager, greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality, adding to the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere that makes Roy’s so special.  Of course don’t miss the world famous chocolate souflee for dessert.

From the stunning décor to the inspired cuisine and exceptional service, Roy’s Waikiki delivers an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in an evening of island-inspired elegance, this restaurant is a must-visit when in Waikiki.

We had a great lunch at MOKU Kitchen in Honolulu was a true delight—warm, inviting and full of flavor. From the moment we arrived, manager Kassidy made us feel completely welcome and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect.

We started with the butternut squash ravioli—smooth, rich, and beautifully balanced—and followed that with the grilled asparagus topped with macadamia nuts and a tasty oyster sauce. The crunch of the nuts and the savory oyster sauce elevated the dish to something special.

Next came the Caesar salad, generously sprinkled with ripe tomatoes and fresh-cut spearfish—it was light yet satisfying, and a highlight of the evening. The Ahi poke bowl was another standout: vibrant, fresh, and perfectly seasoned.

For dessert, don’t miss their signature macaroon ice cream sandwiches. The sweet macaroons with creamy ice-cream in between were the perfect finish, and left us feeling completely satisfied.

Overall, the ambiance of MOKU Kitchen, the thoughtful service from Cassidy and the beautifully prepared dishes made it a memorable dining experience. If you’re in Honolulu and looking for something exceptional yet approachable, this spot is a must-visit.

A Spectacular Oceanfront Lunch at Monkeypod Kitchen – Waikīkī

If you’re looking for an unforgettable lunch spot in Waikīkī, Monkeypod Kitchen delivers on every level — incredible ocean views, a relaxed island vibe, and food that feels both fresh and inspired. Located at the Outrigger Reef Waikīkī Beach Resort, this restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely midday meal with the sound of the waves and a cool ocean breeze as your backdrop.

We started off with a couple of delicious appetizers. The vegan bean and vegetable soup was hearty and flavorful, packed with garden-fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned. The cast-iron shrimp appetizer was another standout — tender shrimp served sizzling hot, cooked with garlic, herbs, and just the right touch of spice.

For our main courses, the macadamia nut–crusted spearfish was absolutely phenomenal. The fish was perfectly cooked — firm, flaky, and complemented beautifully by the nutty crust and tropical hints of pineapple and citrus. The fresh ahi tuna with jalapeño mashed potatoes was another highlight — a vibrant, flavorful dish that balanced the fresh, buttery texture of the tuna with a creamy, slightly spicy mash. Both entrées showcased the restaurant’s dedication to using the freshest island ingredients.

Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying one of their famous pies. The fresh strawberry cream pie lived up to the hype — light, creamy, and bursting with fresh Kula strawberries. It was the perfect sweet finish to a perfect lunch. We also sampled a few of Monkeypod’s signature cocktails, and they did not disappoint — bright, balanced, and perfect for a sunny afternoon.

The service was friendly and attentive, and the entire experience felt relaxed yet refined. Whether you’re coming off the beach or celebrating a special occasion, Monkeypod Kitchen in Waikīkī is an ideal place to enjoy a memorable lunch overlooking the ocean.

Review: Piko Kitchen & Bar

Piko Kitchen & Bar is a laid-back, island-vibed hangout that really leans into local comfort with a modern twist. The food, drinks, and atmosphere all felt thoughtfully crafted, making it a standout destination and great outdoor vibe as we had brunch there.

Th macademia nut danish is a luxurious treat: the pastry is flaky and buttery, and the chantilly cream is light, airy, and not too sweet. The toasted macadamia nuts add a wonderfully crunchy, nutty contrast. It’s indulgent but balanced — a perfect start to a meal.Fresh and clean flavors make this toast a winner. The lomi salmon is bright and tangy, with onions and tomatoes that bring acidity and bite. The toast is sturdy yet crisp, giving just the right support to the toppings. It’s savory, satisfying, and refreshingly light.

Rich chocolate meets tropical coconut in these chocolate haupia pancakes, creating a dessert-for-breakfast experience that’s seriously crave-worthy. The pancakes are fluffy and moist, the haupia brings creamy coconut sweetness, and the overall flavor feels indulgent but not heavy.

The mahi’ai omelette is packed with vegetables and cooked to a soft, comforting texture that doesn’t skimp on flavor. It’s clean, hearty, and satisfying.

Blue Hawaii Lemonade- Bright, citrusy, and refreshing — this lemonade has a tropical punch that’s perfect for sipping on a warm day. It’s not overly sweet, and the island-inspired flavors really shine through.  Love you so matcha-Silky smooth with a clean, earthy matcha taste. The sweetness is well balanced, letting the matcha come through without bitterness. It’s comforting, modern, and feels like a thoughtful take on a classic matcha drink.

Mango Soft Serve-This might’ve been the highlight of the meal for me. The soft serve tastes like real, ripe mango — bright, tangy, and creamy. It’s refreshingly light and feels like a perfect tropical palate cleanser.

Minisadas- Warm, pillowy, and just sweet enough. These bite-sized malasadas have a crisp outer shell, a soft inside, and are incredibly easy to keep eating. They’re fun, comforting, and a great little finish to the meal.

From the moment you walk into TR Fire Grill on Kūhiō Ave., you sense you’re in for something that blends relaxed island fun with serious dining. The atmosphere is mellow and welcoming — half sports-bar, half upscale grill — perfect for a casual lunch or a hearty dinner without feeling fussy.

The menu is wide-ranging and creative, offering everything from grilled seafood to vibrant salads and pastas. But what really drew me in were the signature items that nod to the legacy of the former Tony Roma’s location in Waikīkī: the full-rack baby-back ribs (yes, they kept them!) and the smoked prime rib presentation under a glass dome.

More than that, though, the dishes we tried showcased that the kitchen is thinking beyond ribs. The octopus appetizer and the grilled squid were both excellent — tender, well-seasoned, full of flavor, and a great way to start. We also opted for the Niçoise salad, crisp and refreshing, a smart counter-balance to the richer mains.

And what a main it was: the paella was the star of the show. Fresh, vibrant, generously portioned, with shellfish, saffron and that to-be-expected “wow” factor when it arrives at the table still bubbling. (Tip: it does take a bit of time to cook, so give yourself a little time and go for it.) Their happy hour from 3–6 pm is a bargain — excellent drinks, lighter plates, and a relaxed vibe that means you don’t have to book something ultra-formal to enjoy great food.

Service was friendly and prompt. The bar area is lively and comfortable — ideal for catching a game, a drink, or just hanging out with friends. Yet when you turn toward the dining area you feel you could easily stay for a full meal and treat it like something special. I loved the value and variety here: great for rib lovers, seafood fans, salad-seekers, and drink-lovers alike.   Great drinks and a happy hour.

Overall, TR Fire Grill hits a sweet spot in Waikīkī: nostalgic enough (for those who remember Tony Roma’s) to feel familiar, modern enough to feel fresh and interesting, and still very accessible in terms of price and atmosphere. If you’re in town and looking to treat yourself — or just want a dependable, delicious meal with drinks in hand — this place is a win.
