Skiing in Deer Valley, Alta, Snowbird: Lodging at the Newpark Resort in Park City, Dining & Attractions- March 2026
Newpark Resort – A Park City Favorite
From the moment you arrive at Newpark Resort, you sense that this isn’t just a hotel — it’s a place that wraps you in comfort, mountain charm, and thoughtful design. Located in the vibrant Kimball Junction area, this resort is ideally positioned for both adventure and relaxation. It strikes that rare balance between being luxurious yet approachable, active yet serene.
Location & Setting — Where Convenience Meets Beauty
What I love most about Newpark is how effortlessly it connects you with both Park City’s natural beauty and its vibrant local scene. Right outside your door are shops, restaurants, and supermarkets — meaning you never have to go far for dinner, drinks, snacks, or essentials.
The hotel sits next to the Utah Olympic Park museum and is just a short walk from the stunning Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter, perfect for a morning stroll or peaceful sunset walk. And with the free Park City shuttle service, you can be at downtown’s historic Main Street in minutes without needing a car — such a wonderful convenience.
Spacious, Thoughtful Accommodations
Let’s talk about the rooms — they genuinely feel like a home away from home, but with a touch of mountain-luxury:
- Every suite and apartment comes with a fully equipped kitchen, making long stays or family trips feel effortless.
- The private outdoor jacuzzi on your balcony is honestly one of the most memorable features. Sitting there in the quiet chill of a Park City evening, mountain silhouettes all around — it’s an experience I can’t help smiling about.
- A cozy fireplace in the living space gives that warm, hygge feel — especially after a day in the snow or a hike.
- Many suites include radiant-heated floors, premium bedding, and smart TVs, blending modern comfort with alpine style.

These are not just basic hotel rooms — they feel intentional and well thought out for real people who want comfort, space, and practicality.
World-Class Amenities
If there’s one place at Newpark where everyone gathers, it’s around the pool area. And for good reason:
- The indoor/outdoor heated pool spills into the hot tub, so you literally swim from inside to outside — and it feels amazing.
- Adjacent to the pool are both steam rooms and saunas, perfect if you want to unwind after a vigorous workout or a day on the slopes.
- The gym is genuinely expansive, with all the equipment you need — from cardio to weights to functional gear — and it doesn’t feel crowded.
This combination of wellness spaces makes Newpark feel more like a resort than just a hotel.
Dining, Surroundings & Accessibility
While Newpark doesn’t feature a large signature restaurant on site (some guests note this), the surrounding area more than makes up for it. You’re surrounded by dining options — from cozy cafés to casual eateries and memorable dinner spots — most of which are just steps from the entrance.
Plus, you’re minutes from grocery stores, coffee shops, and boutiques — making longer stays feel effortless.
Recognition & Guest Praise
It’s not just me — travelers around the world consistently rate this property highly. In fact, Newpark Resort was named a 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award winner, placing it in the top 10% of hotels globally — a testament to its warm service, spacious suites, and consistently positive reviews over time.
Guests frequently highlight the outstanding service, the attention to detail in their rooms, and the friendly, helpful staff who make every stay feel personalized.

Skiing:
If you are looking for the absolute crème de la crème of ski resorts, Deer Valley is in a league of its own. From the moment you arrive, you feel the difference. The service is simply unbelievable — polished, attentive, and genuinely warm. It is what luxury skiing should feel like.
One of the first things that stands out is the ski service. The staff greets you with a smile, helps unload your gear, and makes the entire process effortless. If you’re skiing for multiple days, you can conveniently store your skis overnight on-site. The next morning, they are ready and waiting for you — no hauling equipment back and forth. It makes the experience seamless and stress-free.
Even the details you don’t always think about are elevated here — the bathrooms are spotless, spacious, and beautifully maintained (which honestly says a lot about a resort). Everywhere you go, the staff is helpful, professional, and incredibly friendly. You truly feel taken care of.
The mountain itself is spectacular. Deer Valley is known for limiting daily lift ticket sales, which means fewer crowds and — best of all — short chairlift lines. You spend more time skiing and less time waiting. The trails are immaculately groomed; they are famous for their “corduroy” mornings, and it feels like you are gliding on velvet.
Some favorite runs that people absolutely love include:
- Success – A perfectly groomed, flowing intermediate run that feels like carving on silk.
- Stein’s Way – Long, wide, and thrilling with breathtaking views.
- Birdseye – A scenic cruise that lets you take in the beauty of the Wasatch Mountains.
- Champion – Fun, rolling terrain that keeps things playful and dynamic.
With over 2,000 skiable acres and six mountains, Deer Valley offers terrain for all levels — but what really makes it special is the quality over quantity approach. Everything feels curated and intentional.
Fun fact: Deer Valley was a venue during the 2002 Winter Olympics in nearby Park City, hosting freestyle moguls and aerials events — and you can still feel that world-class legacy in the precision of the slopes.
People love Deer Valley not just for the skiing, but for the entire experience: gourmet on-mountain dining, exceptional grooming, impeccable service, and a refined atmosphere that never feels chaotic.
This is not just a ski resort — it’s a luxury mountain experience. If you want perfectly groomed runs, minimal lift lines, outstanding service, and that elevated touch in every detail, Deer Valley is absolutely the place to go.
Simply put: this is high-end skiing done right.

If you’re searching for the most authentic ski experience in Utah, Alta Ski Area stands in a league of its own. Known for some of the best fresh snow in the state, Alta delivers deep powder, classic terrain, and a back-to-basics skiing culture that feels refreshingly pure.
With over 2,600 acres of skiable terrain and just five primary chairlifts, Alta is uniquely designed to reward skiers who are willing to explore. Unlike mega-resorts packed with high-speed lifts, Alta embraces a philosophy where skiers earn their turns. Much of the best terrain requires hiking, traversing, or bootpacking — perfectly aligning with Alta’s mission to provide an authentic skiing experience in a natural mountain environment.
Terrain & Flow
A perfect day often starts on the Wildcat Face, served by:
- Wildcat – Fixed grip double
From there, head up the mountain via:
- Collins Chair – Detachable quad with angle station
Collins opens up a diverse mix of blue and black runs, offering everything from groomers to technical steeps and powder stashes.
When you’re ready to explore further, venture to the backside terrain, where you’ll find:
- Sugarloaf – Detachable quad
- Supreme Chair – Detachable quad
These lifts unlock an entirely different personality of the mountain, with bowls, steeps, and some of the best untouched powder lines you can find after a storm. The variety between frontside cruisers and backside steeps makes Alta feel much bigger than the lift count suggests.
For beginners and families, Alta also offers:
- Sunnyside – Detachable 6-person chair
In total, Alta operates 5 main chairlifts and 2 covered conveyors, plus a handful of short chairlifts and tow ropes that provide access to three independently owned lodges. It’s a minimalist lift network serving massive terrain — and that’s exactly the point.
The Snow & The Experience
Alta’s reputation for light, dry Utah powder is well earned. Storm days here are legendary, and even days after snowfall, you can still find fresh turns if you’re willing to hike a bit. The mountain encourages exploration, patience, and effort — and that’s what makes skiing here so rewarding.
Alta isn’t about flashy base villages or crowded lift lines. It’s about pure skiing, stunning Wasatch scenery, and a community that respects mountain culture. It feels timeless.
Final Thoughts
Alta is not just a ski resort — it’s a pilgrimage site for skiers. With over 2,600 acres, only five primary lifts, and terrain that demands engagement, it offers one of the most genuine mountain experiences in North America.
If you want to truly earn your turns and ski some of the best powder in Utah, Alta is the place.

Snowbird Ski Resort — one of Utah’s most iconic and thrilling mountain destinations:
If you’re dreaming of legendary snow, breathtaking runs, and an unforgettable ski experience, Snowbird delivers in spades. This is the mountain where every level of skier can find joy — from wide, inviting cruisers to steep, expert-only chutes — all framed by some of the most beautiful alpine terrain in the Wasatch Mountains.
Incredible Terrain & Snow Quality
Snowbird’s terrain is nothing short of spectacular. With over 2,500 skiable acres and nearly 3,240 feet of vertical, you’ll find a diverse mix of runs for all abilities: mellow blues that let intermediates build confidence, rolling groomers that beg for perfect carves, and serious expert terrain that challenges even seasoned skiers.
The resort’s consistent snow quality is part of its legend — tucked into Little Cottonwood Canyon, Snowbird averages around 500 inches of snow each season, making for soft powder, long-lasting conditions, and fresh turns that draw skiers year after year.
Whether you’re swooping down long, scenic descents like Chip’s Run or tackling steep, thrilling zones like Peruvian Gulch, there’s always something exciting just a lift ride away.
Tram Access & Mountain Flow
One signature Snowbird experience you simply don’t want to miss is the Aerial Tram ride up to Hidden Peak — nearly 11,000 feet above sea level — where panoramic views greet you before you drop into breathtaking terrain below. Yes, the wait for the tram can be longer than at smaller lifts — but that’s part of the tradeoff for accessing so much incredible mountain you won’t find at other resorts.
The tunnel at the Snowbird Ski Resort is one of the most unusual features in North American skiing. It’s called the Peruvian Tunnel, and it literally takes skiers through the mountain to reach the back side of the resort.
The Peruvian Tunnel (Snowbird)
-
Length: about 600 feet (≈180 m)
-
Opened: 2005–2006
-
Location: connects Peruvian Gulch (front side) to Mineral Basin (back side)
-
Ride time: ~4 minutes
-
Transport: a moving “magic carpet” conveyor belt rather than skiing through it.
Instead of skiing down or riding a chairlift, skiers step onto the conveyor and glide slowly through the mountain.
Why the tunnel was built
Before the tunnel, accessing Mineral Basin from the front side of Snowbird could be inconvenient:
-
The main route was the aerial tram, which sometimes shuts down in high winds.
-
Some routes required skiing terrain that intermediate skiers might find difficult.
The tunnel solved both problems by providing a reliable, easy connection between the two sides of the resort.
Today it’s also used when weather forces the tram to close.
What it’s like inside
The tunnel is more than just a passageway:
-
It’s roughly 10 ft wide and 12 ft tall, carved through solid rock.
-
The conveyor moves about 160 ft per minute, like an airport moving walkway.
-
The walls contain photos and exhibits about the mining history of Little Cottonwood Canyon.
So the ride feels a bit like a small underground museum while you’re standing on skis.
A unique feature
The Peruvian Tunnel is widely described as the only ski-area tunnel of its kind in North America.
That makes it a memorable novelty for visitors—many people stop to take photos or videos while riding through it.
Why skiers love it
-
Quick access to sunny Mineral Basin terrain
-
Works even when the tram is closed by wind
-
A weird, fun experience: riding a conveyor belt through a mountain in ski boots
Parking & Access — A Little Planning Goes a Long Way
On the flip side, parking at Snowbird can be a bit of a challenge some days. Because of the resort’s popularity and the canyon’s natural constraints, spaces fill up early in peak season — and if you’re not up before the crowds, good spots get snapped up fast.
If you want guaranteed, front-row parking all season long, Snowbird now offers a Preferred Parking Pass (around $1,300 for the winter), which gets you premium access without the daily scramble.
But there’s good news for those who don’t want to deal with parking — the UTA Ski Bus runs to Snowbird (typically every 30 minutes during peak hours), making access easy and relaxing without the hassle of finding a space.
Trail Maps & Wayfinding
One tiny downside compared to some other resorts is that Snowbird doesn’t always hand out paper trail maps on the mountain — so you may spend a little time figuring out your route if you like to explore every corner. Skiers often suggest taking advantage of the big maps at the end of runs or asking the friendly resort staff who are stationed around the mountain — they’re usually happy to point you in the right direction.
Staff & Overall Experience
Part of what keeps people coming back is the vibe. Snowbird has a laid-back but incredibly supportive atmosphere — with staff dotted around the hill ready to help if you’re not sure where something is or want a great local run suggestion. It feels big and adventurous, but still welcoming.
Final Thoughts
In total, Snowbird is the ultimate ski destination in Utah for anyone who loves variety, big mountain terrain, consistently excellent snow, and breathtaking views. Yes, you might have to plan a little for parking and navigation, but once you’re on the slopes, it’s nothing but unforgettable runs and alpine magic.

Dining:
Matilda’s
Matilda’s in Park City was nothing short of excellent — a true standout dining experience from start to finish. We had the pleasure of meeting one of the partners, Pierson Shields, who is incredibly hospitable and welcoming. That warmth carries through the entire restaurant. The atmosphere and décor are absolutely beautiful — elevated yet inviting — and the staff is top-notch. Special thanks to Marissa, our gracious host, and Nicole, our fantastic server, who made the evening seamless and memorable.
What Not to Miss
Start with the strateciella cheese with evoo and special French pepper, paired with their huge blown-up flatbread made from sourdough — outstanding and unforgettable. The beet walnut spread was another delicious opener.
Some of our absolute favorites:
- Prawn toast – packed with flavor and perfectly crisp
- Charred scallops – cooked to perfection
- Roasted carrots – beautifully balanced
- Miso cabbage – a surprise standout, deeply flavorful

The signature feature is their pizza, crafted from the massive wood-fired oven. We tried:
Both were exceptional — perfectly blistered crust, balanced toppings, and that unmistakable wood-fired depth.
To elevate your meal, enjoy one of their thoughtfully crafted cocktails or a glass of wine from their well-curated list.
And absolutely save room for dessert:
- Sticky date pudding with spiced ice cream – rich and indulgent
- Decaf tiramisu – incredible and the perfect ending
Overall Impression
Matilda’s delivers a five-star experience across hospitality, ambiance, and cuisine. It’s no surprise the restaurant is quickly becoming one of Park City’s highest-ranked and most talked-about dining destinations. Every detail feels intentional, and every dish shines.

Review: A Feast at Tilly’s Charcoal Chicken
We had one of the most satisfying meals at Tilly’s Charcoal Chicken during our trip to Park City — and it’s quickly become a must-recommend for anyone in the area. This fast-casual restaurant serves up authentic Aussie-style charcoal-grilled chicken that was juicy, flavorful, and plenty generous.
The star of the show is definitely their charcoal-grilled whole chicken. We ordered one whole bird, and easily found it could feed 3–4 people — perfect for a group meal without the fuss of cooking. The skin had that beautiful smoky char you want, while the meat stayed tender and rich.
But the feast didn’t stop there — Tilly’s menu is packed with sides and other standout dishes that round out a complete meal:
Highlights from the Meal
- Tasty potatoes — perfectly roasted and seasoned.
- Baked mac & cheese — creamy, comforting, and hearty.
- Curried chicken salad — a zesty twist with golden raisins and spice.
- Soba noodle & cucumber salad — refreshing, light, and well-balanced.
- Couscous salad — nutty and flavorful.
- Roasted squash — earthy and delicious.
- Fresh chicken salad — bright and satisfying.
- Other sides & dips like hummus, tzatziki, muhummara, and salsa verde — all great on their own or with the chicken.

Everything tasted clean and fresh, making it a great healthy option that still feels indulgent — especially after a long day of skiing or exploring around town. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious, with a menu that suits both take-out dinners and casual lunches alike.
One of the coolest parts of our experience was learning that Pearson, whom we met the night before at Matilda, is a partner here too — tying together a sense of community and passion behind the food. It really feels like the kind of place where locals and visitors alike can grab delicious food without the frills.
The menu also features a variety of sandwiches (like chicken rolls and pita options), salads, and even family feasts if you’re feeding a larger group.
If you’re in Park City and craving something wholesome, hearty, and shareable, Tilly’s should be on your list.

Chop Shop Park City, the butcher-meets-pizza-joint in Park City’s Newpark Town Center that’s been getting a lot of buzz — especially for its meats to go and house-made pizzas:
Meat, Pizza & So Much More
From the moment you walk into Chop Shop, it’s clear this isn’t just another butcher. Yes, the high-quality cuts of meat — including dry-aged beef, specialty pork, lamb, and poultry — are the stars of the show, sourced from locally responsible ranchers and producers. But what makes Chop Shop special is how creatively those meats (and more) are turned into prepared foods you’ll crave again and again.
Signature Detroit-Style Deep Dish Pizza
Chop Shop’s Detroit-style pizza is absolutely worth the trip. Baked in a wood-fired oven right on site, this deep-dish Detroit pizza delivers a crisp bottom, generous cheese layer, and rich toppings — a signature crowd-pleaser and a perfect showcase of the butcher shop’s premium ingredients. Regulars rave about how this pizza stands out among Park City’s offerings.
Sandwiches & Burgers to Go
On our recent take-out run, we grabbed a couple of their handheld favorites:
- Burger — juicy, flavorful, and loaded with meat quality you can really taste.
- Fried Chicken Sandwich — crispy, perfectly seasoned, and one of the best versions we’ve encountered in the Park City area.
The take-home experience here is seamless — from packaging to portion sizes, it feels like gourmet food you’d happily reheat for dinner later.
👨🍳 The Man Behind It: John
Owner and butcher John Courtney brings serious culinary chops to the business. An ex-banker turned chef, John has cooked in award-winning kitchens from France to Las Vegas before co-founding Chop Shop. His passion for quality — and for personally knowing the ranchers and farmers behind the product — shows in every bite. Whether you’re chatting about cut recommendations or pizza technique, his enthusiasm and expertise elevate the experience.
Other Specialties
Beyond pizza and sandwiches, Chop Shop also offers:
- A fantastic butcher case with hard-to-find cuts and dry-aged staples.
- Charcuterie boards and deli selections ideal for gatherings.
- Grab-and-go meats and prepared items that make home cooking a joy.

The Bake Shop
If you’re in Park City, The Bake Shop is an absolute must-visit. From the moment we walked in, the owner, Page, was so friendly and genuinely accommodating — you can immediately feel the warmth and passion behind the place.
What truly sets The Bake Shop apart is that everything is made in-house. You can taste the difference in every bite.
What We Tried (and Loved)
- Croissant – Unbelievable. Perfectly flaky, buttery, and beautifully layered.
- Sourdough bagels – Chewy with that ideal crust and tang.
- English muffins – Fresh, tender, and miles above anything store-bought.
- Banana bread (to go) – Moist, flavorful, and the kind you wish you had ordered two of.
For breakfast, we enjoyed:
- Avocado toast with an egg on top – Fresh, vibrant, and served on their incredible house-made bread.
- Sourdough bagel egg sandwich – Comforting, satisfying, and elevated by that outstanding bagel.
The Bake Shop strikes the perfect balance — cozy but not chaotic, high-quality but approachable. It’s clear that craftsmanship and hospitality are at the heart of everything they do.
Whether you’re grabbing coffee and a pastry, sitting down for breakfast, or taking something home for later, this spot delivers every time.

A true gem in Park City — fresh, welcoming, and absolutely delicious.
Dinner at SeventyOne — A Taste of Nostalgia with Modern Comfort
From the very first bite, SeventyOne delivers a memorable mix of comfort food classics and creative twists — just what you hope for after a day on the slopes or exploring beautiful Little Cottonwood Canyon.
We kicked things off with the poke nachos and cauliflower appetizers — an album-worthy opener that set an upbeat tone for the whole meal. The nachos balanced fresh ahi with crisp chips and flavorful toppings, while the cauliflower offered a satisfying, playful take on a classic starter.
The butternut squash bisque that followed was velvety and rich, perfect for warming up and clearing the palate before the heartier courses. It’s one of those soups that feels like a hug in a bowl.
For mains, there was plenty to love:
- The black bean burger came topped with juicy tomatoes and a creamy avocado sauce, paired beautifully with a crisp side salad — a satisfying choice even for non-vegans.
- The bison stroganoff was robust and hearty, a perfect antidote to a chilly afternoon on the mountain.
- The five-layer cheese lasagna topped with chicken was a clear standout: rich, indulgent, and thoroughly excellent.
Other favorites from our group included the lobster pot pie — decadently creamy and full of sweet lobster — and the sweet potato bowl with mixed vegetables and rice, a wholesome, colorful option that felt both nourishing and flavorful.

No dinner at SeventyOne would be complete without dessert. The mud pie was a decadent finish — rich, chocolatey, and a definite crowd-pleaser. Pair it with one of their signature cocktails or a glass of wine from the well-curated list, and you’ve wrapped up an evening in style.
Retro Roots & ’70s Vibe
The restaurant’s name — SeventyOne — pays homage to the year Snowbird first opened, back in 1971, and the design leans into that era with a fun, vintage aesthetic. Think warm earth tones, retro patterns, and subtle nods to ’70s style throughout the dining space — a vibe that even extends into the bathroom (photo above) The décor gives the space a relaxed, joyful feel that’s both nostalgic and refreshing, contrasting pleasantly with the modern mountain views visible through large windows.
Originally the dark and dated El Chanate restaurant in the lower level of Cliff Lodge (pictured above), SeventyOne was reinvented with a more light-filled, retro-modern look that celebrates Snowbird’s roots while serving up a menu designed for all tastes and ages.
The server, Madeline was fantastic and super friendly and helped with suggestions and enhanced our experience.
In Short: The food here is consistently enjoyable, the menu has something for everyone, and the throwback décor adds a playful touch you don’t see every day. Whether you’re fresh off the slopes, grabbing lunch with friends or settling in for dinner with cocktails, SeventyOne is a solid choice for a memorable meal at Snowbird.
