Skiing in Lake Tahoe
We spent 2 incredible days at Heavenly Ski Resort used the Epic Pass in Lake Tahoe, and it was absolutely amazing! From start to finish, everything about this place made for an unforgettable experience.
One of the best parts is how easy it is to get on the mountain—the gondola from the village takes you straight to the lifts, making it super convenient. Watching the lake come into view as you ascend is breathtaking and sets the perfect tone for the day ahead. The lines weren’t too bad, though it did get busier over the weekend. But once you’re up there, the vast terrain, incredible views, and well-groomed trails make it all worth it!
What truly sets Heavenly apart is the diversity of its trails. Whether you’re looking for steep black diamonds, groomed blues, or gentle greens, the resort has something for every level of skier. The runs are long, beautifully maintained, and offer breathtaking scenery at every turn. One of the things I loved most was how every trail felt like an adventure, winding through trees and opening up to spectacular lake views—it really makes the experience feel unique compared to other ski resorts.
As an expert skier, I was especially impressed with the variety of challenging runs available. The express line to Ellie’s, a long and thrilling black diamond, was one of my favorites. I found myself taking it multiple times because it was just that good—steep, fast, and perfect for pushing yourself. Another great route was taking the Skyline Trail, a scenic blue that leads to the Pinnacles Trails, a demanding black diamond that did not disappoint. It was the perfect mix of excitement and challenge, with plenty of opportunities to carve some exhilarating turns. Tamarack also connects with Comet Express, where you can choose between the blue or black diamond run called Little Dipper, making for an exciting mix of terrain options. And if you love moguls, the Dipper Express has one of the best mogul runs in all of California—challenging, but so much fun! It’s the kind of run that tests your skills but leaves you grinning at the bottom, ready to go again.
Beyond the skiing itself, the entire experience at Heavenly is top-notch. The staff were beyond friendly and helpful, always making sure everything ran smoothly. There was never a moment where I felt lost or unsure—everything was well-marked, and lift operators were always ready to assist. The Tamarack Lodge offers a great selection of food, though it’s on the pricier side. One afternoon, we grabbed a quick meal and just sat outside soaking in the sun and the incredible mountain atmosphere—it’s moments like those that make ski trips truly special. If you prefer, bringing your own meal and finding a scenic spot to enjoy it is another great option.
Even if you don’t ski, there’s still plenty to enjoy! The observation deck provides jaw-dropping panoramic views, and there’s a fun walking trail where kids can play in the snow. Watching the sunset from the top of the mountain was absolutely magical—seeing the sky turn shades of pink and orange over the lake is something I won’t forget.
Overall, Heavenly completely lived up to its name! The combination of world-class skiing, stunning scenery, and fantastic service makes it a place we’d return to in a heartbeat. Whether you’re an expert skier looking for a challenge or a beginner just starting out, Heavenly has something to offer. This trip reminded me why I love skiing so much—it’s not just about the sport but the entire experience of being in the mountains, surrounded by beauty, pushing yourself, and making unforgettable memories. If you’re looking for the perfect ski getaway, this is it!

Northstar Ski Resort (also on the Epic Pass) was truly my favorite mountain, and it’s easy to see why! With its expansive terrain and long, well-groomed runs, it provides an unforgettable skiing experience that keeps me coming back year after year. The combination of exhilarating black runs and steep blue runs creates a playground for skiers of all levels. They were the longest and most extensive black runs I have ever experienced and I absolutely loved it.
One of the standout areas at Northstar is the backside, where you’ll find **Martis**—a hidden gem that offers less crowded slopes and fantastic runs. It’s a perfect spot to escape the busier front side and dive into some great descents. Be sure to check out runs like **Pinnacles**, a favorite for its smooth carving, and **Boulder Bowl**, which offers both challenge and stunning views.
Northstar boasts an impressive variety of lift names and runs that cater to all skiing preferences. The **Big Easy** lift services lovely green runs for beginners, while the **Comstock** lift takes you to higher elevations with access to a wide range of blue and black runs. Don’t miss the **Lookout** lift, which leads to incredible runs like **Challenger**, also known as “Follow Me,” where the steepness challenges even the most seasoned skiers. **Sierra Grande** is another must-try, offering a thrilling descent that lives up to its name.

I love the diverse terrain at Northstar, which allows me to explore different styles of skiing throughout the day. From wide-open groomers to thrilling tree runs, every turn brings new excitement. Plus, the views from the mountain are absolutely breathtaking, making every run even more special.

Review of SunnySide Lodge Restaurant
Nestled in the scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe, SunnySide Lodge Restaurant is a culinary gem that seamlessly blends a delightful Hawaiian theme with a menu that will leave your taste buds dancing in delight. Owned by TS Restaurants, this charming spot is a must-visit, and my recent experience there was nothing short of spectacular.
From the moment we stepped in, the warm and inviting atmosphere was complemented by the friendliness of the staff, especially the manager, Allie. Her welcoming demeanor and attentiveness made our dining experience even more enjoyable. She went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable and well taken care of.
We began our meal with several appetizers that set the stage for an outstanding dining experience. The seafood clam chowder soup was a perfect start—rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. The signature fried zucchini was a delicious twist on a classic, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The crispy fried goat cheese served with focaccia was another highlight, balancing creamy and crunchy textures that made for a delightful bite.
For our entrées, we couldn’t help but rave about the pistachio-crusted halibut, which was, without a doubt, the star of the meal. The combination of the nutty crust and tender fish was exquisite, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting. The Thai clay pot seafood and shellfish dish was also a fantastic choice, bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked. Lastly, the salmon bowl, featuring a variety of fresh vegetables and rice, rounded out our selections beautifully and was another excellent option for those looking for something lighter.
And no visit to SunnySide Lodge would be complete without indulging in their famous Hula Pie for dessert. This massive slice of deliciousness is certainly meant to be shared, and the rich, creamy ice cream combined with the chocolate cookie crust was a heavenly way to end our meal!
To elevate the dining experience further, we paired our dishes with one of their signature drinks and a glass of wine, making for a perfect accompaniment to our feast.
Overall, SunnySide Lodge Restaurant delivers an unforgettable experience filled with friendly service, spectacular food, and an ambiance that perfectly captures the essence of Hawaii. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Lake Tahoe, make sure to include this fantastic spot on your culinary itinerary!

If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience in Northstar, look no further than Rubicon. From the moment you walk in, the friendly and welcoming staff, including GM Michael and manager Tim, make you feel right at home.
For starters, do NOT miss the baked chicken wings! They’re a rare find, as most places deep-fry them, but Rubicon’s version is a delightful twist that you’ll crave again and again. The Greek salad with chicken is another must-try, featuring a refreshing lime vinaigrette that perfectly complements the fresh ingredients. Additionally, the hummus and feta cheese platter served with grilled flatbread is a tasty way to begin your meal.
While their pasta dishes are appealing, we chose to go with some of their crowd-pleasers for the main course. Tim recommended the Thai pizza, and swapping out chicken for shrimp was an excellent decision—it’s a unique and delicious twist that you’ll love. Don’t overlook their incredible gluten-free options either! We indulged in the roasted medley, a rich combination of roasted garlic, tomatoes, onions, and cheeses that was simply divine.
The ambiance at Rubicon is particularly special, especially on a sunny day. The outdoor patio offers stunning views of the ice-skating rink, making it the perfect setting to enjoy a meal with friends or family.

A Culinary Delight at Swiss Lakewood Fine Dining**
Nestled in the charming town of Homewood, Swiss Lakewood Fine Dining is a true gem that offers an extraordinary culinary experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the warm hospitality of host Cindy, who guided us to a cozy booth that set the stage for an unforgettable evening.
Our server, Alice, was attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. We kicked off the meal with a selection of appetizers that blew us away. The crabcakes were divine, with a perfect blend of flavors that practically melted in our mouths. The steamed clams were equally impressive, showcasing freshness and a delightful seasoning that left us wanting more. It’s not often that you come across Oysters Rockefeller, so we couldn’t resist trying them – and they certainly lived up to the hype! We also sampled the blackened halibut tacos, which were another terrific choice that balanced flavors beautifully.
Moving on to the entrées, we chose the cioppino with mixed seafood. This dish was perfectly spiced, bursting with flavor, and showcased a wonderful medley of fresh seafood. The shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta was equally delectable, and the richness of the vegetarian lasagna was a comforting addition that delighted the taste buds.
To finish off the evening, we indulged in a Grand Marnier soufflé and the peanut butter pie — both desserts were the perfect ending to a sumptuous meal. I highly recommend enhancing your dining experience with one of their thoughtfully curated cocktails or a selection from their impressive wine list. I personally enjoyed a French martini that complemented our meal beautifully.
What makes Swiss Lakewood even more special is the welcoming atmosphere created by the new owner, who redesigned the restaurant a few years ago to foster a more open and inviting space, complete with a larger bar area. It’s a lovely setting to savor a top-notch meal with friends or loved ones.
