Helping the LAPD serve our communities
MISSION
The mission of the Los Angeles Police Foundation is to create partnerships to provide resources and programs that help the police perform at their highest level and to enhance LAPD-community relations.
WHO WE ARE
Founded in 1998 to fund urgently needed programs and equipment for the Los Angeles Police Department, the foundation is guided by a Board of Directors which includes prominent business and civic leaders.
The foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) corporation. Gifts to the foundation are tax deductible. Being a member of the foundation brings timely information about public safety and the LAPD, invitations to special events, and the chance to participate in LAPD activities and ceremonies.
Our grants fund needs that are not included in the city budget, and in emergencies, we can respond quickly to immediate needs.
WHAT WE FUND
Officer protection
The LAPD is the only department that issues trauma prevention kits to every officer on the force. Funded by the foundation, the kits contain materials needed to stop blood flow and cleanse wounds from gunshot and stabbings. Officers have been able to treat their partners in the crucial moments before medical help arrives, and in several recent tragic cases, the trauma kits saved lives.
Training scholarships
Los Angeles Police Department recruit training is among the best in the world. However, as officers move up in the ranks they need more training in law enforcement and in management. The Police Foundation provides training at national law institutes and specialized conferences to give LAPD officers the skills they need to manage an increasingly complex organization.
Equipment
From specialized electronics for the Scientific Investigation Division to gear for the horses in the Mounted Platoon to communications in the Chief’s command center, the Police Foundation helps equip the LAPD.
