“Zumanity” Cirque du Soleil fantastic, seductive show at NY NY Hotel in Las Vegas (2/10)

ZUMANITY – THE SENSUAL,
SEXUAL SIDE OF CIRQUE DU SOLEIL

Las Vegas…known for pushing the envelope when it comes to being America’s number one City of Sin, is the host of so many gluttonous delights – gambling casinos, overpriced thematic hotels and restaurants, strip clubs and anything else you can imagine under the desert sun. Las Vegas provides its visitors with an experience of total indulgence with the opportunity to get out of one’s skin and enjoy the decadent pleasures of life.

We were fortunate to catch ZUMANITY, the erotically charged show from the creators of Cirque Du Soleil. Although the show initially opened in 2003 as the resident entertainment at New York – New York Hotel & Casino, it’s no surprise that this show is still running and in full swing! The “Adult-penned” showcase created by Guy Laliberte and Dominic Champagne features live vocals, an amazing jazz and cabaret style band, sultry dance choreography and breath taking acrobatic numbers to bring this provocative show to life.

The exploration of this show is vast and filled with many twists and turns. The production still holds true to the Cirque vibe for color, movement and awe, utilizing the entire space from lower stage to high above the crowd. All of the dancers and actors in this production come from various cities around the world and crosses many barriers of age, race, gender and sexual orientation. When the lights go down, the anticipation is thick when the show finally begins with an invigorating African tribal dance of sexuality with “Wassa.” From there “Waterbowl” features an effortless display of fluid movement and sensuality in a large bowl of water. The two petite topless contortionists glide in and out of the water and on top of each other in a graceful display of sexiness and liberation, very reminiscent of fantasy Vargas girl pin up faeries paired with a lush musical sounds capes. The evening’s Drag Queen Host is quick and witty…keeping the show moving in between acts and is accompanied by an array of shadow dancers grinding and pulsating on and above the stage, you never have a dull moment.

“Hoops,” in which you see a Britney Spears-esque schoolgirl flying high and low as she works at least a dozen hoops from top to bottom with great form. You also have the hunky “Rose Boy” whose sculpted muscular body performs a striptease for the audience while surround by lovely ladies. He takes it all off down to his hairless body, covered only by a bouquet of red roses.

Moving through the showcase, you have the silver suited S&M clad robot with prominent erection gyrating with great speed while his dominatrix cracks her whip for him to move faster within his oversized hoop. “Dance on TV” features a sexy mohawked dancer’s amazing pole tricks to grab the attention of her lover who then joins her for a brilliant display above the crowd. With “2 Men,” one of the most aggressive performances of the night, a tumultuous tango between two men, fight for the affection of a mysterious woman. This scene changes from a fight to the finish to a match of love and passion as they accept the energy between them, venturing off on their own – together.

Other standout acts of the show such as “Midnight Bath,” where a steamy bubble bath fantasy is demonstrated between a couple as he slides her from one end of the oversized tub to the other in a playfully seductive manner. "Orgy," the final act of the show’s cast, invites guests from the audience to join the group on stage to embrace their simulated moans and groans of orgasmic play with a final send off to the crowd to go home and have fun!

ZUMANITY gives great respect to the male and female form and as one would expect a 90-minute show about sexuality and nudity to be the main draw for the show, the cast moves past the expected, pushing their bodies and talents to the ultimate limit, leaving you wanting more and ready to sign up for your own private dance and trapeze lessons.
