Humphrey’s by the Bay in San Diego for a Great Dinner, Live Music and more (2/06)

Humphrey’s by the Bay located in San Diego is the all around place to be at night.  This venue has a great selection of California Cuisine by Executive Chef Paul Murphy; a beautiful lounge for live music; a setting right on the bay overlooking the water/boats; and an outstanding Live Outdoor Concert Venue with name headliners scheduled from mid May till mid October.  Murphy has been the sous chef for Wolfgang Puck’s “Postrio” in San Francisco along with executive sous chef for the Ritz Carlton Hotel Restaurant Bistro 24.  His specialty is seafood and there is plenty of it prepared in a variety of ways on the menu.  An outstanding wine list featuring mostly California wines compliment your meal.

     First course choices are Baked Oysters, tender crusted calamari with a chipolte sauce, fresh Dungeness crab cakes and a nice selection of salads and soups including lobster bisque, Cajun shrimp & corn chowder, and the soup of the day (Broccoli), which was out of this world.

     The fish portion for the main entrée consists of Seared Ahi Tuna with red rice and cilantro that was delicious; Roasted White Sea Bass with Basmati rice in a sweet mango-papaya relish; Halibut with a macadamia nut crust; Atlantic Salmon or Pacific Swordfish with mashed potatoes; Seafood Risotto and roasted Sea Scallops.  You cannot go wrong on this menu as the specialty is seafood!  If you want to go off the board, there are other options such as Angus Prime Rib, Filet Mignon, Rack of Lamb, Beef Short Ribs, and baked Chicken Breast.

     Finish off your fabulous meal with a nice after dinner drink or port accompanied by one of their tasty desserts.  Make sure to work off your meal by heading into the lounge for dancing to some great live music every night.  We were fortunate to be there for the Blues fest presented by Volkswagen with many great musicians during the night.

     During the summer months, come in early for dinner as they have a special promotion with a 3 course dinner and reserved great seats to the outdoor concert for approx. $52 per person plus the cost of the concert ticket.  That way you are guaranteed a great dinner and seats for the show! A list of all the upcoming concerts this year can be viewed on the website below.  Every Sunday is an all you can eat Buffet sponsored by KIFM with nice background music while you indulge.

     The atmosphere cannot be beat and the staff and service is top notch.  Restaurant Manager, Mike Hutchison, welcomes you with great hospitality and makes sure all is great for your visit.
