Luck of the Paw- Charity Event in LA – December 7th, 2003

The Luck of the Paw Charity event to raise money for Animal Avengers was held in Santa Monica on Dec. 7th, 03

(Dec. 7, 2003, Santa Monica, CA) Actress Shannon Elizabeth (you may have seen her in two little films called "American Pie" and "Scary Movie") was all beaming smiles Sunday night, as she and several of her celeb friends hosted a most excellent event to raise money for her charity, Animal Avengers. The celebrities serving as dealers at the casino night affair included actors Macaulay Kulkin, Kelly Perine and Lance Bass (okay, he IS known more as an NSYNC-er, but didn’t you see "On The Line"?), radio host Lisa Foxx, and gameshow host George Gray (of syndicated "Weakest Link" fame).

With location and food provided by the special events house known as "The Victorian", several hundred guests reveled in a combination of drinking, eating, bidding (on a wide assortment of Silent Auction items), and of course gambling (no, George never told anyone at his table "you are the Weakest Link, goodbye" — they all seemed to be winning lots of chips). At night’s end, guests cashed in chips for great prizes including books, CDs, DVDs, Avenger-brand clothes and more. To top things off, parting partygoers were given a giftbag with goodie items galore.

Founded in 2001 by Shannon and husband Joseph Reitman, Animal Avengers is dedicated to rescuing and placing homeless pets, reducing pet overpopulation, and preventing animal cruelty. Shannon told me that although her non-profit tries to help ALL animals, its primary focus is on dogs and cats. However, whenever possible, her Avengers do refer animals of the non-canine-feline variety to other groups for assistance. Her eventual goal is to broaden the funding for her group so she can indeed focus on any and all animals in need.

Special thanks to Tracie May of Fabulous PR for her assistance on this truly fabulous soiree. Make sure you attend this annual event in 2004 (put it in your Palm, Pocket PC or Day Runner — NOW!). And look for more Avenger events during the coming year.
