Rockenwagner Fine Dining – July 10th, 2002
Owner/Chef Hans Rockenwagner of his own restaurant located at 2435 Main St. in Santa Monica presents some of the best food in the city. With his own wood style decoration and high ceilings, the room looks enchanting as you splurge into some of the most creative and hard to find delicious dishes. On our recent visit, we encountered the rare yet special "White Asparagus" season which runs approximately a month or so starting in May. Some of the samplers we highly reccommend which includes the White Asparagus, are the Soup, The Spring Rolls mixed with Rock Shrimp, The Sauteed French Foie Gras on Toasted Brioche, or the classic steamed one pound of White Asparagus with new potatoes. Mondays are all you can eat White Asparagus while the season is going.
The Menu changes every 3 months or so with Hans and the Chef de Cuisine, Frank Springman always coming up with new and exciting creations. Some of the other items we suggest are the Soft Shell Crab, The Hazelnut-Crusted Halibut Cheeks that melt in your mouth, Rare Ahi Tuna and Roast Loin of Lamb. The selection has many different dishes to choose from so no matter your taste, you are sure to find something out of this world. From interesting salads, to meat and seafood choices, the menu is divine. A full wine list is available and you are also welcome to bring in your own for a moderate $15 corkage fee. Extraordinary desserts and port wines finish off your great meal. Some tips here are the Homemade Ice Creams, Chocolate Fondue and our favorite, The Nougat Parfait topped with fresh fruit.
