Los Angeles Dining

Rockenwagner Updated Review 2 Years after our first one with new Chef Wolfgang (7/04)

The Cozy atmosphere as you enter Rockenwagner makes you feel relaxed and ready for a great dining experience. His new Chef, "Wolfgang Gussmack" has created some devine new stuff and menu items. Some of my personal favorites included starters: such as German Weisswurst( A tasty, flavorful bratwurst served in a hot water pot with a pretzel roll and mustard on the side; Sauteed Crab Cakes which are the house specialty and not too miss;  & Homemade Potato Gnocchi with an interesting cream sauce.

From there it was on to the main course with raved suggestions of the Diver Scallops with a Pumpkin Risotto; The Moist, Wild Striped Bass; and the ever so tender Filet Mignon-one of the best pieces of meat around.  If you are fortunate enough to come during the White Asparagus Season which runs almost 2 months of the year from May-July, you will not be disappointed at all.  No one prepares as many dishes with different combinations.

Here are some sample Tasting Menus which change every so often.  Be sure to make reservations espcially on the weekend to endulge yourself.  Hans Rockenwagner(The Owner and pictured below) takes great pride into his own establishment located at 2435 Main Street in Santa Monica.  Call (310) 399-6504  or visit www.rockenwagner.com  for more information.
