The Westin Denarau Hotel & Resort in Fiji (9/07)

The Westin Denarau Island, Fiji is breathtakingly beautiful. Completely refurbished, the hotel has a real traditional Fijian feel to it. Only 25 minutes from Nadi International airport, this five star resort’s amenities are exceptional.  From world-class golf to tennis to an abundance of water sports, this resort has it all. One can relax all day on the palm tree lined beach or go jetsking, sailing, motorized boating, kayaking and more by renting these activities from a separate company conveniently located right on the beach. The grounds are lush and well kept. Their no-lip pools beckon you to jump in as you overlook the turquoise ocean just steps away. The exercise room is state of the art. The villas are large, tropical and airy. There is a beautiful spa that focuses on rejuvenation. This resort is set up so that guests of the Westin and the Sheraton Fiji Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas are welcome to share each hotel’s amenities and restaurants. Based on our experience, however we never wanted to leave the beautiful Westin. With four restaurants, two bars and a lounge our favorite meals were the abundant breakfast buffet and their mix and match pasta dinner. Guests can buy crafts made by locals and enjoy entertainment such as fire dancing for a taste of the Fijian culture.

The one caution we would give travelers when visiting Fiji is to be aware of “Fiji time.” This is an affectionate term that describes the slow pace and attitude of the locals. Unfortunately, even at this 5 star resort we did experience some “Fiji time” when waiting for meals at dinner, getting replacement pillows for our suite and getting help at the front desk.

A picture does not do this resort justice. It is absolutely exquisite. Please check out www.westinfiji.com for more information.
