The LA Clippers get trounced by the Phoenix Suns at the Staples Center on 12/27/07

The LA Clippers were dismantled by the Phoenix Suns at the Staples Center on December 27th, 07.  Despite the return of Sam Cassell and Corey Maggette, the Suns were too good as LA suffered its 7th straight home loss.  The teams match up again the on December 28th back in Phoenix but all indications seem to be another blowout loss.  The Clips will have to shoot and defend better.  37% shooting for the game will not get it done and Chris Kaman was totally outplayed by Amare Stoudemire. Stoudemire looked tremendous and finished with 30 points and 15 rebounds while Kaman had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Steve Nash had only 9 points but distributed 12 assists for the Suns balanced attack.  Grant Hill and Leandro Barbosa each scored 16 points and even seldom used Marcus Banks had 11 points in 12 minutes. The Suns shot 53% for the game.

The Clippers are hurting with injuries as Paul Davis is now out for the year. Tim Thomas is day to day and many others are banged up.  They have 15 players under contract and unless they suffer another injury, league rules say they cannot pick up any free agents.  They will have to make a trade or hope for better play from the team.  LA was down by as much as 36 points as the frustrated home crowd of 17,871 started booing.

Kaman will be looking to come back strong as he had one of his worst games of the season and they need him to play well to be in the game.  He is looking like an all star this year while the team has been struggling.  The loss of Elton Brand is really hurting.  They had better turn it around soon or they may be headed for the NBA draft lottery.
