(Los Angeles, CA) January 22, 2007 — ART LA, the New Los Angeles International Contemporary Art Fair, is pleased to announce the final list of participating international, national and Los Angeles-based contemporary art galleries featured at ART LA 2008. ART LA returns January 25 through January 27 to the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 1855 Main Street.

ART LA offers an informed cross section of contemporary art trends happening from Tokyo to Berlin with a focus on Los Angeles-based artists and galleries. The fair showcases 64 top established and emerging galleries from three continents, over half of which are participating for the first time. The galleries represent the most compelling and challenging work being created in art centers including Berlin, London, Mexico City, New York, Paris, and Tokyo, and over half of the galleries participating are based in Los Angeles. ART LA takes place at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the building.

ART LA is directed for the second year by Tim Fleming and organized by artfairs inc.

“This is an exciting moment in Los Angeles as the city has become an important and internationally recognized center for art making. More and more prominent contemporary art galleries and visual artists are based in Los Angeles, and the quality of work being produced in L.A. continues to garner international attention,” said Tim Fleming, Director of ART LA.  “As the only Los Angeles art fair exclusively focused on showcasing brand new contemporary artwork, ART LA champions L.A.’s vibrant art scene and supportive arts community in the context of international trends. ART LA filters the grandiose global art market into a well-curated and intimate fair experience.”

OPENING NIGHT BENEFITS HAMMER PROJECTS

On January 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., ART LA hosts a Patron Preview and Opening Preview that benefit the Hammer Museum’s Hammer Projects series.

"What an exciting fair for Los Angeles,” said Ann Philbin, Director of the Hammer Museum, “the list of galleries is so impressive and the Hammer is thrilled to be involved. There is a really nice connection between the artwork presented in our Hammer Projects series and ART LA’s attention to work by emerging artists – specifically LA artists. It is a very exciting moment for the art scene in LA."

Hammer Projects are a series of exhibitions that focus primarily on the work of emerging artists, and reflect the Museum’s commitment to contemporary art by providing international and local artists a laboratory-like environment to create new work, or to present existing work in a new context.  Hammer Projects have featured artists such as Edgar Arceneaux, Barry McGee, Katharina Grosse, Runa Islam, Elliott Hundley, and Jeff Wall among many others.

ART LA Opening Night is hosted by a select group of important Los Angeles collectors and avid arts supporters, which include Amy Adelson and Dean Valentine, Jeanne & Arthur Cohen, Rosette Delug, Linda and Bob Gersh, Blaine Halvorson, Alan Hergott and Curt Shepard, Tia and David Hoberman, Linda and Jerry Janger, Susan and Larry Marx, Michael Rubel, Lauren and Benedikt Taschen, Marisa and Jeremy Zimmer.

The evening begins with an exclusive Patron Preview from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. followed by the Opening Preview from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tickets for the Patron Preview are $150 in advance and $200 at the door, while tickets to the Opening Preview are $50.
