LA Galaxy falls to first place New England Revolution 2-1 in tough close game on the July 4, 2008

The LA Galaxy played the #1 soccer team in the MLS this year New England Revolution on July 4, 08 at the Home Depot Center.  The Galaxy are in first place in their division but barely as other teams including Chivas USA are catching up.  The Galaxy lost 2-1 in a tough game.  Landon Donovan was not himself and only played the second half because of flu like symptoms.  He almost evened the game a couple times with exciting runs while David Beckham scored the lone goal as the home team fell behind and never could catch up.  Beckham played a great game besides scoring in the 66th minute to make the game close.  He made some great kicks that nearly resulted in goals but his strikers couldn’t convert against the stingy New England defense and goal tending led by Chris Albright and Matt Reis.

The star of the game was Adam Cristman (pictured below) who scored both goals.  New England improved to 10-4-3 while Los Angeles fell to 6-6-3.  Goalie Steve Cronin kept the home team in the game with some great saves but some iffy officiating and lack of offense was very frustrating. The Revolution played much of the game without their star Taylor Twellman who entered the game late but was covered well by the LA defense namely Xavier Abel (Pictured below).  The visitors spoiled the 4th of July result but the fireworks after the game were spectacular.  More information, schedule and tickets at www.la.galaxy.mlsnet.com
