Elizabeth Milan Spa in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto has it All! (8/08)
Much like the hotel in which it resides, Elizabeth Milan Premiere Day Spa, located in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, is exquisite, opulent and prides itself on pampering its guests. The owner, Elizabeth Milan is most gracious and hospitable and treats her spa and her guests like royalty. During our visit the spa was undergoing an emergency renovation due to a flood. Because of the damage the spa had to set up shop down the hall in a vacant American Express storefront. Whereas most owners would shy away from having a writer come in and review the spa under less than perfect conditions, Elizabeth Milan insisted that we come in especially since our stay in Toronto was limited. That was an example of how much pride and trust in her staff and services Ms. Milan has. Once we sat down to receive our treatments in our make-shift pedicure chairs and then were brought to the back room of the bank for a massage and facial we both realized that the quality of the service is so much more important than the setting of the spa. The quality of service at Elizabeth Milan Premier day spa is exceptional. By the time this article is published Elizabeth Milan Spa will be up and running at its usual location only to enhance its service and treatments all the more! The spa was coincidentally extra busy since the emergency and the therapists and Elizabeth herself were the most professional.
I received the Chocolate Truffle Experience pedicure. I am not sure how she knew to choose this treatment for me, but I am a true Chocolate lover and this pedicure was like Heaven for me! After much research Ms. Milan discovered the moisturizing and detoxifying effects of chocolate on the skin and created one of the world’s first chocolate treatments. My pedicure started with a cup of hot chocolate with whipped crème and a spicy pepper garnish out of an ornate golden mug. A chocolate candle was lit to enhance the aroma in the room. After my feet soaked, Irene, my pedicurist scrubbed my feet with a chocolaty sugar scrub. Next my legs and feet were moisturized with a chocolate moose concoction delivered out of a martini glass then pure dark chocolate was sprinkled over my legs. My legs were then wrapped up and sealed to absorb the mixture. As I sat there I felt so pampered and, quite literally, delicious!! Irene did such a meticulous job my feet felt soft and supple and my toenails were shaped and painted expertly. I chose a dark blue- apparently, the latest fad!
My next treatment was the Guinot Hydradermie Lift, a new treatment that was developed to lift features by electrical facial stimulation. Just as exercise will sculpt your body, this treatment creates a lifting effect on your face. It combines ionization, oxygenation and lifting effects making your skin look plump, radiant and youthful. It was like getting a mini face-lift! The treatment began with a lovely 5 minute back massage and then progressed like a relaxing facial without extractions. Towards the end of the facial Irene took out some instruments that sent positive and negative forces to stimulate my face, drain my lymphs and plump up my skin. It felt like tiny waves of energy making my face twitch. The feeling was unusual, but the results were incredible. When I came out of the treatment room my cheeks and brows were lifted and my skin was supple and glowing. I looked ten years younger! This is a great treatment to get before any special event where you want to look your very best.
Todd also had a pedicure, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Parisa, who used hot stones on his feet leaving him feeling pampered and well groomed, did his treatment. Afterwards, Todd moved to another room for his deep tissue massage. Todd who is very muscular and usually has to ask massage therapists to go deeper had to actually ask his massage therapist, Maria to back off on the pressure. Now that’s a strong massage. Perfect for an athlete as she was fantastic Todd mentioned! Maria used different techniques and parts of her body to get deep into Todd’s muscles and make him feeling like butter when he walked out.
