5th Annual Muse Costume Ball at LACMA in LA (11/1/08)

“GHOUL MEETS GLAMOUR” AT FIFTH ANNUAL MUSE COSTUME BALL

Stunning Vanity Fair portraits mix with elaborate costumes

Los Angeles-The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA) Muse program presents its fifth annual Costume Ball on Saturday, November 1, 2008, from 8:15 pm-12 am. This year’s Costume Ball invites guests to experience “Ghoul Meets Glamour” with an exclusive after-hours viewing of the special exhibition Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913-2008.
”Paparazzi” will follow guests as they make their way down the (blood) red carpet and enter into the expansive outdoor plaza of the Los Angeles Times Central Court. Complimentary appetizers and drinks will be served, along with specialty absinthe cocktails; generously provided by Pernod. San Diego-based, rock/funk trio Grand Ole Party will take the stage at 9 pm, powered by the commanding sound of vocalist/drummer Kristin Gundred. At 10 pm, the party will flow over to the LACMA West Penthouse and continue to the beats of DJ Le Femme Digitale, who will be working the turntables as more hors d’oeuvres are served and fresh cocktails are poured.
The annual Costume Contest will take place on the terrace, and prizes will be awarded to winners of the following three categories: Best Halloween Costume, Best Art Inspired Costume, and Most Glamorous Costume. Expect more than 1,000 Muse members, VIPs, and LA’s most creative party-goers decked out in unique and elaborate costumes, creating a glamorously eerie night that should not be missed!

About LACMA Muse
Muse is LACMA’s membership group for young artists and art enthusiasts-and is the largest of its kind in the nation with approximately 3,000 members. With a mission to elevate the experience of supporting the arts, Muse offers its members a dynamic balance of social, educational, and philanthropic activities throughout the year. Muse invites its members to go behind the scenes and beyond the walls of a regular museum visit to explore the art the city has to offer.

About LACMA
Since its inception in 1965, LACMA has been devoted to collecting works of art that span both history and geography-and represent Los Angeles’ uniquely diverse population. Today, the museum features particularly strong collections of Asian, Latin American, European, and American art, as well as a new contemporary museum on its campus, BCAM. With this expanded space for contemporary art, innovative collaborations with artists, and an ongoing transformation project, LACMA is creating a truly modern lens through which to view its rich encyclopedic collection.
