Dodgers lose rubber game to cross town rival Angels in this interleague matchup (6/12)

Rubber Game at Dodgers Stadium honors LA Kings

Dodger Stadium – June 13, 2012

The Stanley Cup was placed on the mound at Dodger Stadium just 48 hours after the Los Angeles Kings clinched the Stanley Cup.  Every King player was given a chance to throw out a first pitch to a different Dodger player prior to the big group shot that included the visiting Angels.  Truly one of the classic openings to a Dodger game that had LA fans buzzing, especially when Andre Ethier wasted no time in the bottom of the 1st doubling in dazzling 27 yr old spectacular rookie Elian Herrera for his 55th RBI giving the Dodgers a 1 – 0 lead and the frenzy was kept alive.  The Dodgers are still missing Matt Kemp, who is on the DL, after re-injuring his hamstring.

Nate Eovaldi started the night looking for his first win in just his fourth game in the majors did not get the run support he was hoping for.  Eovaldi gave up one earned run through 6 innings lowering his ERA to a respectable 1.82.  C.J. Wilson (AL leader in ERA so far this season) gave up one earned run while making it through 7 innings before being replaced by LaTroy Hawkins.

The Angels tied the game up (1 – 1) in the top of the 2nd when Alberto Callaspo homered 346 feet to right field.  There would be no more runs until the 9th when Erick Aybar homered 401 feet over the right field wall giving the Angels a 2 – 1 lead that would end up dooming the Dodgers.  Although the Dodgers had a chance in the bottom of the 9th to tie or win with a two men on and no outs, under achieving Juan Uribe hit into a fielder’s choice, Tony Gwynn Jr struck out looking and Bobby Abreu pinch hit a grounder to phenomenon Ernesto Frieri handing over the win to the Angels with a final score of 2 – 1.  Frieri has become the Angels closer and his ERA is under 1.00
