Walking through the dimly lit theater, the fog machines are prepping the stage in anticipation of another magical performance of Criss Angel – Believe. If you’ve seen the hit TV Show, Criss Angel Mindfreak you’ll see a few of those same illusions performed on stage in this high-powered performance plus an entertaining look into the life of Criss Angel. Add in the flair of Cirque du Soleil and this is truly a must see show on the strip. The slight of hand, the explosions, the pyro technics that accompany each illusion keep you pivoting on the edge of your seat! Where did that come from? How did he get over there? How’d he do that? The show is packed with excitement and wonder as you question your eyes and the things that your mind can’t explain for what just happened right in front of you!
What you might be surprised to see is another side of Criss Angel that was not so easily portrayed in front of the TV camera. Early in the performance, there is a moment where the human side of the Mindfreak is purposely exposed. A simple and personal walk down memory lane in the life of Criss Angel allows the audience to get a sense of the passion, love, and lifetime dedication invested in his art. Several interactive, audience participation pieces of the show gets the crowd involved and leads up to some of the big illusions we were all anxiously awaiting. Seeing with your own eyes and not through the lens of a camera or TV, the illusions are even far more spectacular.
After the show I had a chance to ask Criss Angel what inspires or drives him to perform, and what is the satisfaction he gets from all this. The millions of fans all over the world who follow him on Twitter and Facebook inspire him. The fans make him want to be a better person, a better artist and all at the same time remaining honest and true to himself. His drive also comes from life lessons learned from the heart and credits his mother and father for their support and influence as young magician honing his craft.
Criss Angel’s show opened just over three years ago on the Las Vegas strip to not so favorable reviews. Since then, Criss Angel has taken over the writing for his show. He credits Cirque du Soleil and the outstanding cast members for helping him connect his style of magic with the audience. It’s clear to see the success of this new and much improved show comes by Criss Angel being able to inject himself into the show. “When you can convince yourself that anything is possible, that is when the magic really starts.” Criss says. According the numbers and recent reviews and awards Criss Angel has received including “Magician of the Century”, the magic has begun and you must see it to BEILIEVE it.
