Roys in Rancho Mirage, Ca.- Top choice for Seafood in the Desert (3/13)

We had the pleasure of fine dining at the beautiful yet casual Roys in Rancho Mirage.  The GM Kameron was very hospitable and the restaurant décor was very nice starting with the fire stands swirling in the wind in the protective cases as you walk in with the feel of Hawaii.  We started with the fresh ahi poke with avocado & crispy wontons along with the California lobster roll with avocado and tobiko.  We heard the lobster pot stickers and grilled spiced pork ribs were very tasty but we only had so much room for our upcoming entrees.

They have a wide variety of fresh seafood, which is what I would suggest there as that is their specialty.  Do not miss the Butterfish, which has been a staple at all of their locations for a long time. The miso cod-like fish melts in your mouth.  I had the opakopaka (Hawaiian sea bass that is firm and delicious) but you cannot go wrong with the macadamia crusted mahi mahi.  If you see opah or ono on the menu, you know they received it from Hawaii so those are 2 other great pieces of fish to eat.  Have one of their specialty cocktails or wine to compliment your meal. I tried their Original Hawaiian martini, which has pineapples soaking in skyy and stoli vanilla vodka with a splash of Malibu rum.

They also offer prix fixed menus and combination mixed plates that feature a trio of items so you sample a variety of dishes. Finish your fantastic meal with the upside down pineapple cake or the highly recommended chocolate lava soufflé’ that must be ordered in advance as it takes time to prepare. If you are looking for a Seafood Dinner in the Desert, look no further as Roys is a top choice.
