Philippe new Chinese Restaurant in Beverly Hills- November 2013

PHILIPPE is one of the great high end Chinese restaurants here in town has moved into their new Beverly Hills location having left Melrose behind. This beautifully appointed restaurant now at 8620 Wilshire Blvd if perfect for a business lunch, family dinner or to host a party. The chef was formerly at Mr. Chows and although pricey like Chows, the food here is excellent. We started off with a house Mai Tai which was just right as they had many other specialty cocktails to choose from.

For appetizers, they brought out chicken satay sticks, which were one of the best we have ever had.  The classic chicken lettuce wraps didn’t disappoint as they were very tasty. The pork dumplings melted in our mouths and all 3 dishes had wonderful sauces as well.

Next were the main dishes as they have a dozen or so Prawn dishes to choose from.  We had the chef special prawns which had little kick and were quite tasty along with the Beijing chicken with walnuts. They were accompanied by string beans and fried rice.  The best dish was their famous Peking duck,  which takes 45 minutes to prepare but was well worth the wait. It was amazing. Very tender duck meat with a crisp skin that came with pancakes , scallions and a wonderful plum sauce. We ended the night with ice cream but sorbet is also a good choice.

All in all it was a wonderful dinner. If you are looking for an upscale Chinese experience for lunch or dinner PHILIPPE is the place for you.  Their grand opening is later this month so call for reservations or more info at (310) 289-3500.  Their website is being redone so that should be up soon. The owner Yolanda is very hospitable, the staff and service were fantastic and the atmosphere and decor are spectacular.
