Manchego tapas restaurant on Main Street in Santa Monica is a must visit- June 2014

On your next visit to Santa Monica, check out this new hip restaurant named Manchego (yes like the cheese and they actually serve a delicious mac and cheese with manchego. This intimate establishment specializes in tapas (a Spanish word that you can say are sharing appetizers).

We started with the grilled zucchini with feta cheese and caramelized pecans. The hummus is so tasty along with two great salads- the kale salad accompanied by avocado and yes manchego cheese and the heirloom tomato with beets, red onion and feta cheese. The grilled baby octopus is a definite must as it is cooked perfectly. The chicken catalana is very tender as well as the grilled lamb chops, probably our favorite dish with the octopus.

The menu has something for everyone including cheese boards, meat plates, veggie dishes and other unique items you won’t see on other menus like dates wrapped in ham, spicy chorizo meatballs, potato blini with smoked salmon and poached egg, Spanish omelet, hanger steak with crab meat mashed potato, chicken empanadas to name a few. Happy hour is 5:30-7pm every day with discount pricing on selective dishes. Enjoy a glass of wine or beer with your meal especially one of their wines from Spain. However, if you want some of the best white or red sangria around, this is the place as it is filled with fresh fruits and you will have to have one of each. This place is worth the visit as you will want to come again to try some other dishes since you cannot have them all on one visit.

The restaurant is located right on main street and they keep the front doors open so anyone walking by can see inside the nice place. The staff including manager Ash and our server Jamie were so hospitable, friendly and welcoming.
