Fine Dining in South Lake Tahoe at Café Fiore, Kalanis, Latin Azul, Jimmy’s @ the Landing and Ramanza in Reno- March 2016

Fine Dining in South Lake Tahoe and Reno

Ramanza at the Peppermill Casino.  We started with the chilled jumbo shrimp cocktail and the kale salad.  Excellent beginning before the outstanding main courses.  We had the fresh sea bass on a bed of shrimp risotto and the incredible lobster with spaghetti and a spicy marinara sauce.  Wow! Enjoy a glass of wine or one of their signature cocktails to enhance your meal.   Finish your fantastic dining experience with afogotto- vanilla gelato ice creams with hazelnuts  and chocolate shavings with espresso poured over it table side.

The atmosphere was very Italian with a romantic setting.  The high ceilings, picturesque columns and Roman statues make for an authentic Italian fine dinner in Reno. Our server Michael was so friendly and very experienced. This is a must visit and you will be fully satisfied.   More at https://www.peppermillreno.com/dining/fine-dining/romanza/

Café Fiore in South Lake Tahoe about a mile off the main strip offers some of the finest Italian food we have had in a long time.  The intimate setting of only 7 tables inside made this dinner very cozy. Brian and Kate doubled as hosts and servers and did a wonderful job.  The food speaks for itself.  Start with their mandatory signature garlic bread.  The shrimp scampi appetizer over angel hair pasta was stupendous.  For entrees, we had the filet of beef with a red wine reduction cooked perfect medium as we requested.   We also enjoyed the best piece of swordfish ever.  The thick cut was tender and crusted pan seared and finished in the oven topped with capers and lemon butter.

They have an extensive wine list with all the bottles displayed throughout the restaurant.  The desserts were very impressive from the poached pear to the tiramisu.   Make your reservations early as they are very popular. http://www.cafefiore.com/

Kalanis at the Heavenly Valley village is very unique.  This Asian-Fusion-Seafood establishment offers an array of delectable options.  They have a full sushi menu as I started with one of their specialty rolls which was spicy tuna inside and tuna sushi outside topped with seaweed salad.  They also serve tasty appetizers such as the pan fried crab cakes.

For the main course, go with one of their signature seafood choices such as the mixed grill of shrimp, scallops and the fresh fish of the day.    The atmosphere makes you feel like you are in Hawaii.  The service was excellent and I highly recommend dining there.

Latin Azul Kitchen-  also located in the heavenly valley village serves delicious Mexican fusion dishes as the chef is very creative.  Start with the shrimp ceviche and the home-made guacamole and chips.  A must is the Thai chicken taco and beef bowl that had cooked onions, green rice and potatoes with corn tortillas which were also home-made.  Try a side of the not re-fried  smashed pinto beans.  A great atmosphere to socialize and for friends and families. The manager Lauren and our server Sarah were very hospitable and attentive.

Jimmy’s at the Landing not far from the casinos and near the water was vert exquisite and high quality.  The manager Claire was so helpful and welcoming.  Definitely start with the grilled octopus which was tender and easy to eat.

For entrees, try the organic chicken and the must have Colorado lamb chops, which were out of this world over orzo pasta . A fine dining experience extreme with an intimate setting and beautiful décor.
