Red Sox defeat the Dodgers in the first game of the series at Dodger Stadium with Ortiz’s final visit

The Red Sox came to L A to make a rare visit.  The evening started with a nice presentation to David Ortiz who is retiring at the end of the year.  Many are trying to talk him out of it as he is having a monster year.  With no DH, Ortiz did not start vs lefty Kazmir.  Boston started all star Steven Wright , who is 12-5 with a 3.20 era and whose specialty is the knuckleball.

Catcher and slugger Sandy Leon supplied much of the offense with a 2 run homer p, a single off the wall with the bases loaded and sac fly while Mookie Betts went deep as well while singling in a second run   Betts is also having an outstanding season batting .306 coming into the game with 23 hr’s and now 73 rbis.   He is trying to become only the second lead off hitter to reach 100 runs batted in.  Only Darren Ersted accomplished that with the Angels.
It was 4-0 and Kazmir was chased. Boston Broke it open with a 5 run 8th with the help of an error and more hits by the powerful lineup to make it 9-0 on fireworks night for them and the sell out crowd of 52,728 at Dodger Stadium.  Wright held LA to Justin Turner’s double,  Grandal’s single and Kiki Hernandez’s single for a 3 hit shutout.
