Los Angeles magazine’s The Food Event 2018 Epicurean Extravaganza

(Gerry Furth-Sides) Los Angeles magazine’s The Food Event 2018: Its 13th Annual Epicurean Extravaganza is still the best autumn event.   The spacious grounds inside this magnificent private venue make for delightful walking in the fresh air between samplings from a curated list of the most innovative and the very best LA Restaurants, Wine, Beer and Spirits.

Right at the entrance: RONAN Restaurant’s artistic Breakfast Radishes with Garlic Butter served up so beautifully its not surprising that an art gallery fronts the new RONAN restaurant. When checking back to see exactly what made it so special,  Chef Daniel Cutler’s wife and partner, Caitlin Coyne, graciously told us that he created the dish as “an homage” to the classic French – adding a bit of caper to the creamy garlic butter.  No surprise that Daniel was a former acclaimed chef de cuisineat the pizza oven at Sotto.  It also turns out it was Caitlin was the “heart of the house” hostess.

(2) Head to Silverlake because here restaurant food actually lives up to its promises!  The mixed seafood ceviche was as fresh as the ocean. And the Salazarhost here was so sweet to help pick the best one for a photograph.

Casa Vega‘s “best bite” as Christy Vega serves up Casa Vega’s family recipe for albòndigas and the best hug right inside the entrance.

Short ribs happily were a popular dish at the Los Angeles magazine’s The Food Event 2018.  Terraneaoutdid them all with both beef rib and beef cheek.   Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib at the restaurant($36) are also served with  whole grain honey mustard, jalapeno mashed potato, garlic broccolini and horseradish cream.  Terranea’sculinary team uses locally sourced products from the resort grounds and the surrounding peninsula.  Chef de Cuisne Andrew Vaughan, who didn’t need to ask twice if we wanted a second helping, oversees  the mar’sel restaurant herb garden.

(5) Surprise celebrity chef!  The young, cutting edge, brilliant guy serving a unique dish turned out to be none other than superstar Marcel Vigeron of Wolf restaurant!

(6) Desserts served on the top of the hill were wild and wacky.   The SMITTEN ICE CREAM ladies brought their own ice cream maker to whip up raw cookie dough ice cream.  They were thrilled to top it with whipped cream for us.

Some people dress— so we loved this as a part of the general people-watching.

A dress to match the wildlife outside the fence!
