Palisades Ski Resort & Lodging at the Village in Palisades, North Lake Tahoe

Lodging:

The Village at Palisades Tahoe Lodging is ski in/ ski out located right near the lifts. The condo type rooms are very spacious, comfortable and have a kitchen. There’s a balcony and sitting room and it’s a great place to stay and ski at Palisades resort. They have ski lockers, a fitness room, spa, billiard room, and adjacent to many restaurants and shops in the village.  You’ll be just steps from the slopes and in the heart of all the fun, including dining, shopping, events, and activities in The Village at Palisades Tahoe. Plus, you’re just a short drive away from stunning Lake Tahoe! Almost all of their rooms have private balconies, full kitchens, and in-room fireplaces. You also can access all 8 of our outdoor hot tubs & free underground parking.  https://www.palisadestahoe.com/plan-your-visit/lodging

Skiing:

Only recently did Squaw Valley change their name to Palisades Resort and now it is combined Alpine Meadows to make one ski big resort.   It includes one ticket to use both mountains as they have a base to base gondola newly opened in the last two years to get you over to each side of each mountain. There’s something for everybody and I stayed mostly on the groomers, but you can get down from almost any chairlift.

I had a couple beautiful sunny days before heading out of town with a huge storm coming in. I missed some fresh snow, but I wanted to get back safely with the drive and not be stuck through the weekend. There are beautiful views of the lake from each of the ski resorts and some of my favorite runs were off the following lifts.  At Palisades check out the Red Dog lift as well as K22 from the base and you’ll find a variety of skiing. The saddle was a black diamond groomed run off K22 all the way down or hit one of the other lifts in the middle of the mountain like Siberia or Big Blue to get back up.

I took the tram one time and had the pleasure of getting on the same ride with a promotion of Bluegrass music playing some tunes in the tram for a cool ride up but I recommend the other chairs or the Funitel (which is like a mini gondola) to get you up faster.  If you’re looking for something very challenging, hit up the Headwall chairlift as that is all black and double black diamonds before you get halfway down. The Shirley express also had some nice groomed blue and black runs on the far right hand side of the mountain.

In Alpine, two of my favorite runs were groomed black ones with the Wolverine and the Alpine bowl. Those can be reached off the Summit express chair.  Or some other great runs were off the treeline cirque chairlift, and then heading left to the Sherwood chair especially at the start of the day if the sun is out. There are some nice blue runs, and the great view of the lake, including the lake view chair lift.  It’s easy to get back-and-forth through the mountain no matter where you’re at and you catch the base to base gondola to get back to the Palisades side if you don’t want to drive.

Overall, it was a short but nice trip. I only got to ski 2 days so I will have to come back to experience more next time but sometimes it is luck of the draw with the weather.  https://www.palisadestahoe.com
