FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Santa Monica, California – [03.18.24] – Presented by Saatchi Art, The Other Art Fair
returns to Santa Monica for its 11th Los Angeles edition, bringing together a diverse
array of artists, live performances, and unforgettable experiences for art enthusiasts
and collectors alike. Taking place from April 4 to April 7 at the iconic Barker Hangar,
this spring's edition promises to be a wellspring of inspiration and surprise for art
lovers of all ages.
The Other Art Fair turns the traditional art fair experience on its head by offering
visitors an in-person opportunity to connect directly with emerging and independent
artists from around the world. With plainly listed artwork prices and a welcoming
atmosphere, The Other Art Fair celebrates diversity, creativity, and transparency in
art, offering attendees a truly engaging and inclusive experience.
Handpicked by a selection committee of art world experts, the 140 exhibiting artists
will offer thousands of original artworks for sale across various media—including
painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, ceramics and more—priced between
$100 and $10,000. Thanks to the pre-vetted nature of the fair’s lineup, attendees can
buy with confidence and discover the next generation of contemporary artistic talent.
The April 2024 selection committee included celebrated artist Tanya Aguiñiga; Los
Angeles based-gallerist Yiwei Lu; Erin Remington, Director of Sales and Curation at
Saatchi Art; and The Other Art Fair’s Global Fair Director, Nicole Garton.
True to its promise to subvert expectations and celebrate innovative voices, The
Other Art Fair will present “Perceive Me Redux,” a free, nude portrait experience that
invites visitors to strip down and see themselves through the eyes of artists, who will
sketch their likenesses in a private pop-up group studio onsite. Inspired by artist
Kristine Schomaker’s 2020 performance-based project of the same name—which
saw 60 artists create nude portraits of Shoemaker—this highlight of the fair’s
program will offer attendees a body-positive opportunity to re-evaluate notions of
self-worth, validation, and identity by challenging assumptions of perception. Portrait
sessions will be available to book each day at the Fair on a first come, first served
basis, and sketches by a selection of artists will be available for purchase for $25
each. An exhibition of works featured in the original “Perceive Me” project will also
be on view at the fair.
Foodies and maximalist design-lovers alike will be wowed by the realistic cake
sculptures of artist Jasmine Archie, whose “Pretty Shitty Cakes”—as seen on Olivia
Rodrigo’s global world tour and in the pages of Architectural Digest—will be featured
in a faux bakery pop-up at the Fair, where Archie will live-decorate an exclusive drop
of limited edition cake sculptures. Attendees can purchase customized versions of
what the New York Times hailed as Archie’s “eccentric, color-saturated
confectionary-inspired creations.”
Kicking off the Fair’s festivities during Thursday’s Opening Night is a special live
performance by artist Scarlett Kapella who will treat guests to a cheeky cake-sitting
performance, which seamlessly blends fetish, cake, and art.
For those seeking a multisensory experience to start the weekend, the Fair’s Friday
Late program will feature an electrifying live musical performance by artist Matt
DiBiase of PlexusPlay, fusing EDM beats, live vibraphone, visual projections, high-
energy dance for an audiovisual journey not to be missed.
The Other Art Fair Los Angeles is pleased to announce Kendull Anderson as recipient
of its April 2024 New Futures award. Formally established in 2021, the Fair’s New
Futures program aims to support talented local artists at the start of their careers by
awarding complimentary exhibition space—part of its ongoing mission to break
down barriers to entry in the traditional art world.
Further underscoring the Fair's commitment to social impact, the People's Pottery
Project will present a selection of ceramic works for sale in a dedicated booth at the
fair and offer visitors the chance to book ceramics workshops hosted by the non-
profit organization offsite. All ceramics are created by artist members of the
People’s Pottery Project, whose mission is to employ and empower formerly
incarcerated women, trans, and non-binary individuals through paid job training,
access to a healing community, and meaningful employment in their collective non-
profit ceramic business.
Throughout the weekend, guests can look forward to drinks, delicious eats from
local food vendors, sculptural installations, interactive features, and more. "We are
thrilled to bring The Other Art Fair back to Los Angeles, offering a dynamic and
inclusive platform for artists and art lovers to connect," said Global Fair Director
Nicole Garton. "With a diverse range of features and experiences, we aim to
celebrate creativity, empower artists, and foster a sense of community beyond the
bounds of the art world."

● “The Karmacy,” an interactive installation with an imaginative twist on the
‘take what you need’ board.
