A Beautiful and Convenient Stay at Omni San Francisco Hotel- Aug 2026

We had a wonderful stay at the Omni San Francisco Hotel, and it was an experience I would happily recommend to anyone visiting the city. Located at 500 California Street, right on the historic California Street cable-car line, the hotel is in a very convenient downtown location. Union Square is about a 13-minute walk away, while Chinatown, North Beach, the Embarcadero, and many excellent restaurants and attractions are also within easy walking distance.

One of the things that makes this hotel special is its beautiful historic character. The building dates to the 1920s and was originally constructed as the Financial Center Building. Omni purchased it in 2002 and carried out a careful restoration, preserving many of its elegant architectural details. The two-story lobby is especially impressive, with Italian marble, rich fabrics, Austrian crystal chandeliers, and a beautiful wrought-iron staircase. The guest rooms continue that classic atmosphere with high ceilings, crown molding, and mahogany and cherry wood furnishings.

We particularly enjoyed the sophisticated décor and the subtle Asian influence in some of the hotel’s details, including the Chinese granite featured in the bathrooms. The overall design, however, is more accurately described as a blend of historic San Francisco elegance and Florentine Renaissance style, rather than a purely Asian-themed hotel.

The room was beautiful, comfortable, spotless, and very relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The staff were also exceptionally hospitable, welcoming, professional, and helpful throughout my stay. That warm service really added to the overall experience.

For those who like to stay active while traveling, the hotel has a 24-hour, recently renovated 1,500-square-foot fitness center, complimentary for hotel guests. It includes Peloton bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, weights, rowing equipment, and other modern fitness equipment.

And don’t miss breakfast! Monte’s Restaurant and Bar is right in the hotel and serves breakfast and lunch, with dinner and cocktails available at the bar. Breakfast is served daily from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., and the restaurant offers a menu where you can order individual dishes rather than simply relying on a buffet. Room service is also available if you prefer to dine in the comfort of your room.

Overall, the Omni San Francisco is a wonderful choice for travelers who appreciate historic architecture, elegant surroundings, comfortable rooms, attentive service, and a central location. Being close to Union Square, Chinatown, the cable cars, restaurants, shopping, and other San Francisco attractions makes it an especially convenient home base for exploring the city.
