Simpang Asia in Palms, LA: A Must-Try for Indonesian Food

🇮🇩

If you’re craving flavorful Indonesian cuisine in Los Angeles, Simpang Asia in Palms, near Motor Avenue and National Boulevard, is definitely a must-try!  We recently visited their Venice location and both are fantastic.

From delicious traditional dishes to satisfying noodles and irresistible desserts, our meal was a wonderful culinary experience. A special shout-out to our server, Andy, who was incredibly hospitable, welcoming, and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.

We started with the roti, a flaky, warm flatbread perfect for dipping, and the lemper, a delicious Indonesian snack made with sticky rice filled with seasoned, shredded chicken. Both were excellent ways to kick off the meal and get a taste of Indonesia’s comforting flavors.

For our main courses, we enjoyed the sea bass cooked in a banana leaf, which was aromatic and flavorful, with the banana leaf helping lock in the moisture and fragrant seasonings. We also had a wonderful vegetable dish featuring garlic, green beans, and water spinach. The greens brought a fresh, savory element to the table, with the garlic adding a delicious depth of flavor.

The shrimp fried rice was another satisfying dish, while the Mie Tek Tek delivered classic Indonesian street-food comfort. This vintage-style noodle dish features egg noodles tossed with chicken breast, eggs, cabbage, and Chinese greens for a savory, satisfying combination. We also enjoyed the Kwetiau Goreng, featuring flat noodles stir-fried with shrimp—a delicious choice for noodle lovers who appreciate those savory, wok-tossed flavors.

And, of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert! The “Tell Me a Story” Indonesian pancake was a fun, sweet way to finish, along with the black rice pudding served with ice cream. The black rice pudding offered a lovely balance of rich, comforting texture and sweetness, complemented by the cool, creamy ice cream.

To make the experience even better, consider pairing your meal with a beer, wine, or one of their soju drinks. The drinks complemented the variety of flavors beautifully and added to the enjoyment of the meal.

What made the experience especially memorable was the combination of flavorful food, variety, and warm hospitality. Andy’s welcoming service made us feel comfortable and well taken care of throughout the meal.

Final verdict: Definitely a must-try! Whether you’re already a fan of Indonesian cuisine or looking to explore it for the first time, Simpang Asia is a great spot for sharing delicious dishes with friends and family.
