“Forever Tango” Spectacular Dance/Musical Tour Show from Argentina is a Must See – February 1st,2003

Creator Luis Bravo offers up a splendid mix of sexy dancing couples and spectacular orchestrations in this pure tango review.

Captivating from the opening number we’re drawn in by a provocative couple dancing under a black veil, and from there we take a trip to old Argentina weaving through a series of hot tango seductions performed by world-class tango artists.

My personal favorites included "El Suburbio" in Act I, an intense fight scene performed by the entire company, reminiscent of "West Side Story," and "El Humor," performed by Marcelo Bernadaz and Veronica Gardella, which offers fun, comic relief to contrast the hot intensity of the other numbers. In Act II, I was mesmerized by Claudio Gonzalez and Valentina Villarroel in both of their numbers, "Libertango," and "Romance del Bandoneon y la Noche," where they flowed like ice skaters with unraveling spins, splits and death-drops. There grace and athleticism were captivating. The tango dance style is especially interesting to watch because of the roles the performers take on. The man is the predator, hair slicked back, the cat toying with his prey, where as the woman allows this "dance" to take place. But ultimately, she’s the ruler of the roost, with legs kicking, flicking and intertwining. This hot, steamy blend of tease and catch makes tango so much fun for the audience to watch. The viewer can’t help but be drawn in to the erotic seriousness with which they express their dance.

Alternating between dances is a series of orchestrations of tango standards, expertly led by Victor Lavallen and an occasional song by "La Voz" of "Forever Tango," Carlos Morel. Maestro Lavallen’s fingers flew across the bandoneon as we were treated to the amazing, yet seemingly dying, art of accordion performance. All in all "Forever Tango" scores as a hot, sexy treat, warming the spirit of the dancer within on an LA winter’s night. I’ll never buy another dress again without a slit all the way up the side. "Forever Tango" is playing at the Wilshire Theater(8440 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills) through Sunday, Feb. 16th.
