ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This year’s Hanukkah Family Festival highlights two major themes of the holiday—light and freedom (luz y libertad)—through the lens of Latin American culture. Enjoy live performances, storytelling, art making, and a host of other family-friendly activities. families of all backgrounds welcome!
Please note: Advance tickets to Noah’s Ark will not be available on Sunday, December 14. On that day, limited one-hour Noah’s Ark tickets will be available to Hanukkah Family Festival attendees only on a first-come, first-served basis.

Performances
CAPOEIRA BRASIL
11:00–11:30 a.m.; 12:30–1:00 p.m.
A performative martial art that combines Brazilian dance, acrobatics, and music—try it for yourself!
PASATONO ORQUESTA
11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.; 1:00–1:45 p.m.
Nine-piece band Pasatono Orquesta blends Mexican folk and Dixieland jazz with African and European influences. Listen and dance to unique renditions of Hanukkah songs and energetic tunes from the group’s latest album, Maroma, inspired by the one-man Mexican circuses of the past.
MARIACHI GUADALAJARA
12:15–1:00 p.m., 1:45–2:45 p.m.
Led by Pablo Sandoval, this beloved Los Angeles–based group livens up the festivities with classic mariachi tunes and holiday standards with a twist.
FAMILY FINALE
3:00–4:00 p.m.
At this culminating celebration storyteller Anna Dresdon brings the Hanukkah story to life, and Israeli American band Moshav plays rockin’ tunes about light.
Art Activities
Workshop: “Light Is Life”: Celebrate light with specialists from learning design lab The Exploratory. Make your own “light activators” to illuminate Latin American plants and animals and a giant Hanukkah lamp onto a 3-D paper mural. Then add your own words and drawings to the mural.
Workshop: “Freedom Shines”: Artist group Sorbet invites families to explore the theme of freedom through a project inspired by Mexican folk art traditions. Create tin paintings and add them to a collaborative installation.
In the Galleries
Visit the exhibitions Light & Noir: Exiles and Émigrés in Hollywood, 1933–1950, The Noir Effect, and Café Vienne. Also visit Noah’s Ark at the Skirball, one of L.A.’s best family destinations. Limited one-hour Noah’s Ark tickets available on a first-come, first served basis.
Join docents on the lively and informative Lights of Hanukkah Family Tour at 12:30 p.m., and a tour of Light & Noir at 1:00 p.m.
Dining and Shopping
Enjoy Zeidler’s Café’s popular lunch menu including special hanukkah dishes such as brisket empanadas, corn and potato latkes, and traditional latkes served with sour cream and apple sauce. Zeidler’s Cart will also be open throughout the festival, offering dulce de leche sufganiyot (jelly donuts) and its usual fare of fresh salads and sandwiches.
Pick up unique holiday merchandise at Audrey’s Museum Store and the Light & Noir Holiday Pop-Up Shop, located inside the Museum’s Hurd Gallery.
