Literati Events Presents “the abhorrum masquerade: The Strange
Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”
A science fiction and horror costume ball comes to Santa Monica on Saturday, October 17, 2026
SANTA MONICA, CA (October 1, 2026) – Literati Events invites Los Angeles to unmask its darker half at the
abhorrum masquerade,” an evening celebrating the macabre, the eldritch, and the forbidden. This year’s ball draws
its inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and takes place Saturday,
October 17, 2026, from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM at the historic Santa Monica Bay Woman’s Club.
Guests are invited to come as their finest selves, or their most feral, and step into a world of dark fantasy carried by
live music and curated performance. The evening features Habibi Swing, the Los Angeles Swing Dance Posse,
Tiffany Silver, The Hinklers, Destiny, CaroLyra, Roman Toybox, Alyssa Caliendo, Lacey Lilac, Andais, and Vixen
the Forbidden Magician.
“In year of increasing polarization and duality, we consider if these differences are irreconcilable or if the friction
we are experiencing is part of one unified human experience,” said Christopher Lee, founder of Literati Events.
A curated market of makers and purveyors will be open throughout the night, featuring Varanid Paradise, The H.P.
Lovecraft Historical Society, Golden Coast Mead, Living Apothika, Vixen’s Forbidden Cave, and more. Spirits and
craft mead will be available to guests 21 and over with valid government identification.
‘the abhorrum masquerade’ is presented in partnership with The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, Golden Coast
Mead, and The LA Poet Society.
