Club Med in Cancun – May 2nd, 2003

Club Med in Cancun, Mexico is the perfect place to come and frolic in the sun and blue water and release your life tensions away.

Club Med in Cancun, Mexico is the perfect place to come and frolic in the sun and blue water and release your life tensions away. There is a little something for all walks of life here. This is an Adult Village and all guests must be 18 years or older. The Chief of the Village is Luke "Gus" Neale from Australia. What an incredible guy and perfect person to run a village. He takes care of anything and everything and his friendliness is second to none. He works very hard with his staff to keep the place top notch. Book a trip with a friend or even by yourself and you will be paired up with a roommate. For an additional charge, you can have a room all to yourself.

The all inclusive resorts includes all the food, drinks, and activities you can consume. There is a breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet each day and night. Chefs are preparing everything on site and made to order meals are available. Every night, there is a different themed evening of cuisine. There is also a snack bar open from the late afternoon till wee early morning hours.

For a special treat, you can dine at the La Palapa Restaurant right on the beach. Reservations are necessary for dinner and can only be made the same morning. Wine and Beer are included in lunch and dinner. As for consuming liquor at other times, drinks can be purchased with tickets or for an additional approx. $200, you get a wristband that gives you carte blanche at all the bars at the resort. It’s a good feeling not to have to deal with your money or wallet. Walk right out of the incredible clear blue water, head to the bar, order yourself a pina colada and head back to a shady spot under a palm tree.

If you like water sports you can’t come to a better place. Spend part of the day snorkeling in the beautiful clear blue waters that surround the property. Just outside your cabana door awaits a world of stunning natural coral reefs and fish that sparkle fluorescent in all the colors of the rainbow. Explore the huge mounds of brain coral and find small underwater rock caves. See the reef squid swim by like fighter pilots in formation or catch a giant ray slowly gliding by. Get up close and personal with some of the most colorful tropical fish in the world. The vibrant colors of violets, blues, yellows, greens, and reds will stay with you for a lifetime. All the equipment is right there for you at the Snorkel Shack.

After a morning of snorkeling, try your hand at windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, or water-skiing. The flat waters and protected bays are ideal for these types of activities. There is no need to worry if you are a first time novice because there are instructors at every activity to help and give lessons. In no time at all you will be the captain of your very own small sailboat, sailing along with the wind in your sails and changing directions like a pro. Water-skiing is probably the most popular water sport at Club Med. The lagoon behind the property is perfect because of its’ flat waters. Skiing on two skis, one ski, or wake boarding is available. The instructors are good and also patient. Don’t worry about falling. You can keep trying until you finally get up and running. If the wait is long, you can put your name on the list and go relax on a nearby hammock.

Throughout the day at Club Med there are events and activities planned for your enjoyment. You can enjoy a game of ping-pong out by the pool, or shoot some baskets under the lights at night. There is beach volleyball available or you can play volleyball or shoot baskets while cooling off in the pool. There are salsa classes outside or a yoga class to take in the workout room(weights and cardio equipment available as well). There are games like like the GO’s (the employees) vs. the GI’s (guests) in water polo and other outdoor sports and activities every day. There are tennis tournaments among other competitions happening all the time. Just check the schedule on the Bulletin Board. Every night the GO’s put on a theater show for about an hour after dinner. There are dance & comedy routines among some interesting magic and musical skits. Also every evening, feel free to participate in the popular club med dances lead by most of the GO’s/Instructors/Employees. The late night disco is a fun way to finish the night dancing and mingling with new friends

The rooms at Club Med are very comfortable and all have a water view of either the lagoon or ocean. There are lush grass lawns surrounding most of the rooms and property, which is a great place to lie down, relax and catch some beautiful shooting stars at night.

One thing that sets Club Med apart from other resorts is the feeling of community you feel when you are there. It’s an intimate setting. There is no giant hotel lobby or lavish decor. You get to know people. Because the food and drinks are all inclusive, guests stay on the property to enjoy. You eat lunch or dinner with some familiar faces and start to build relationships. In this world of fast paced power lunches and meals, it feels good to take your time and actually get to know a little something about someone else. There are people vacationing at the resort from all over the world, so you get to hear different points of views, perspectives and learn a little about different cultures.

Once settled in to Club Med, you probably won’t stray to far. Everything is right there…food, drinks, spas for messages, workout facilities, Satellite TV, laundry, internet capabilities and plenty of sun. If you are looking for a change of scenery nearby, here are some ideas:

Some recommendations for off site activities and excursions include the following: Scuba Diving (reservations can be made at the Scuba Desk near the center of the village and dining area. There is also an excursion office on location that can plan a day trip for you to many of the fun adventures. If you want to have your own freedom, you can rent a car (located in the Lobby) for about $40 a day and do your own thing on your own time. I would suggest planning where you ca take your time and do a couple different excursions on the same day.

The places I suggest are Xel Ha (pronounced Chel Ha), is a nature park where you can swim with dolphins; relax in their spa or on hammock island; rent a bike; swim through the caves or glide down the River of Dreams; jump off a small cliff into the refreshing water; climbing a rope and swinging across a lagoon; visiting some beautiful macaws and unique fish in the aquatic institute. You can also take a ride if you have your own car to see some ancient ruins overlooking the beautiful scenery of mountains and ocean at Tulum about 10-15 minutes away. Both of these adventures are within an hour from Club Med. The biggest Mayan ruins in Mexico are called Chichen Itza’ but that is at least 3 plus hours away. A third place that is in the general same area is Xcaret, an Animal/Bird/Water/Swim Park with spectacular night show every evening starting with a traditional Mayan ball game on their large ball court with about 8 players on each team; followed by some entertaining Mexican music, drumming, and dance with over 200 performers in extremely unique costumes. During your day there, you can also swim with dophins, horseback ride, swim in the underground river and Mayan village river with little waterfalls; visit all the animal and bird attractions. More info at http://www.xcaret.net. Last but not least was one of our favorite attractions called "Wet and Wild" in affiliation with Parque Nizuc http://www.parquenizuc.com located just minutes away from the Club Med. Very reasonably priced (compared to the very expensive Xcaret which was approx. $50 for the day per person), this park doesn’t have any animals except for swimming with dolphins. They seemed to be the most organized and experienced with the dolphins. You can also try the shotover jet ride which speeds around like a racecar on water that will have you on the edge of your seat. A great place to bring the whole family, there are many different water attractions and slides for kids and adults. A great way to spend the day while relaxing or trying many of the water adventures there. The town of Cancun is not too far away from Club Med. You can take a bus or taxi to do some shopping or take in some interesting nightlife. The one club I highly recommend is called "Congo Bongo" which is a dance nightclub/Vegas style Show all in one. In between each unique variety show, the DJ will play some popular dance music while the next act prepares. The lighting/confetti/balloons/etc. all occurring during the night make this venue worth a trip.

For more information on this Club Med or any others, you can call (800)club-med or visit them online with more detailed specifics about any of the villages at http://www.clubmed.com It is worth your while to visit Club Med in Cancun or any others as you will never be bored there.
