“Lot 1224” Fantastic Hidden Secret at the Loews Hotel in Beverly Hills (6/05)
"Lot 1224" Fantastic Hidden Secret at the Loews Hotel in Beverly Hills (6/05)
A West Side/Beverly Hills restaurant/bar/lounge at the new Loews Hotel on Pico Blvd. With a resort like feel.
The menu is a wonderful Euro-Asian flavor and the wine list is complete and delightful. When my assistant and I first sat down, we were delighted with the fresh ahi tuna sashimi salad that was to die for. The executive chef, Kelly Wangard (her husband is the executive chef at the Loews in Santa Monica), graduated from the Calif. Culinary Institute in San Francisco and later delighted the island of St. John with her presence. She brought the terrific sweet corn fritters idea from there which were delicate and flavorful, especially dipped in the chipolte sauce which seemed to compliment almost everything on the menu. In fact, hands down, this was the best dipping sauce we had tasted in sometime. It had six ingredients, and not to give this gem of a receipt away, but it was based on honey mustard, smoked Jalapeño blend. We also had the incredible tasty Thai Fried Calamari, which melted in our mouths. The Fresh Ahi Tuna Sashimi was out of this world!
Now it was time for the main entry. We ordered the grilled Alaskan halibut and the stuffed boneless quail. The halibut was light, thick, delicate and extremely flavorful, directly from the Santa Monica Seafood Market. The quail was stuffed with spinach and smoked bacon and was good but just a bit heavy for our pallets.Nonetheless, the complementing wines, the Midge Creek Shiraz (2002) and the Pinot Noir Debouch (2001), gave a rich blend of flavors that could not be beat and made essentially everything taste good. At this time, we were about to call Cal Tran to hoist us from our seats but were tantalized by there desert tray which ultimately left no doubt that we made the right decision. The trio of Crème Brule-Vanilla, chocolate and raspberry, were decadent and the Molten chocolate lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream made us decide that instead of Cal trans, we needed the coroner. We had just died and gone to heaven.
With an extensive menu of meats, seafood, vegetable dishes and some tempting sides such as rice and potatoes prepared quite a few different ways, this place has it all. Come for Happy Hour and enjoy some specialty martinis & house cocktails made with a variety of vodkas and guaro (a no carb liquor from Costa Rica similar to vodka). There are some comfortable couches and booths to relax at or play some pool and watch some sports in the adjacent game room. Keep an eye on this place to be the New Hot Spot to dine and party/dance upstairs in due time.
