Wolfgang Puck’s “Chinois on Main” in Santa Monica – July 18th, 2002

This is truely one of Wolfgang’s finest establishments of all his places. Decorated by Barbara Lasaroff (Wolfgang’s wife) and managed by Bella Lantsman, the crowds always seem to be busy so make your reservations early. It can get a bit loud inside but the food is so wonderful and creative, it makes you forget about everything else. Head Chef Louis Diaz does a remarkable job in the open to view beautiful kitchen. There are many chefs working hard, which is why all the dishes are unique and taste delicious.

First Flavors recommended are the succulent marinated Shrimp sauteed with a warm mushroom salad; the seafood potstickers and even the quail in a crispy noodle basket. The Tempura Ahi Tuna sashimi is out of this world as it melts in your mouth. The Szechuan Pancakes with Duck, Mushrooms, and Cilantro are great. If you come during the Soft Shell Crab season, those are a must to order as no one makes them better.

Entree suggestions would be the Grilled Mongolian Lamb Chops with wok-fried veggies; The Whole Sizzling Catfish which looked remarkable even though we didn’t have it; The Seabass wrapped in won ton skin; The Seared Maine Sea Scallops in their huge shells witha red wine black bean sauce; and The Lobster with a spicy ginger curry sauce over crispy spinach. Any of these fabulous dishes can be accompanied by different side orders of selected fried rices or stir-fried vegetables. Diversed desserts including a sampler basket of goodies from home made ice creams to fruits, cookies, and pastries are my choice.
