“Mosun” Sushi/Sake/Japense Cuisine in Laguna Beach is a real lively hot spot (7/08)

     If you are in search of the trendiest place in Orange County with fantastic sushi and a lot of energy, Mosun is your place. The venue is lively and young with loud music playing while you eat. That is the vibe they have created while the food is delicious. My only suggestion would be to tone down the music a bit during dinner.  On weekends, the place turns into the most happening club in Laguna Beach. 

     A full array of appetizers from tasty crispy rice cakes topped with spice tuna and avocado, diver scallops wok seared or a choice of miso soup, veggie tempura or wontons (fillet mignon or lobster).   Next move onto the shrimp boat special, seared tuna tataki with peppercorn and halibut or yellowtail sushi dishes. Specialty sushi rolls worth the visit include the hurricane roll (mixture of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail), mosun roll which is a California roll with baked scallops on top or the firecracker roll with tempura California roll topped with spicy tuna and eel sauce.  Not full yet?

     A variety of all your favorite sushi, sashimi, hand or cut rolls anyway you like them are to choose from.  Entrees include selections of meats, chicken or salmon bento boxes with vegetables and rice, or our recommendation of the panko crusted halibut with spinach and garlic mashed potatoes or pan roasted Chilean sea bass, which melts in your mouth. 

     Enjoy one of their specialty cocktails, martinis or a glass of sake with your meal. The atmosphere is electric so if you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner, this is not the place.  Be sure to try one of their house desserts before you limp out of the place.  They have specials certain days of the week so check the website out for more information and reservations are suggested. All in all, we really enjoyed it and it is quite the experience.
